    Chiltern Class 165 move

Seemed to be 2 Chiltern units at Bristol today, so appears this work is still continuing, unless they are now coming back for something else. Fairly sure a set of four mk4s is also at Bristol, but no idea why

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

I think that would depend on how you phrase the question. If it was do you want DOO and new air conditioned trains, or old trains with suburban guards that hide in back cab and never patrol the train, what do you think the answer will be.

    GWR PAYG

The line towards Westbury is same local authority as Chippenham (Chippenham has been included) So using local authority as the reason fails

Caught Using Husband's Photocard on Elizabeth Line - Worried About Consequences

When you say photo card, is it a ticket or pass with a photo, or is a photocard that accompanies a season ticket he has bought. Do you also have a photo card and a season ticket you also bought. If you have two purchased tickets (both valid) and you accidentally picked up wrong one and...

Drone views of the new A429 bridge and new bridge where existing (Coventry-Leamington) rail line crosses the HS2 route

    GWR PAYG

The area covered is becoming a very odd shape As far north as Ashchurch for Tewkesbury, but south-eastward stops at Freshford, but goes further east to Chippenham and now Swindon. Now adding Swindon-Gloucester, but not adding part of the Bristol metro train routes to Frome /Warminster or via...

    Ashley Down station construction updates

Passed through it this morning, at least 6 people in orange overalls working on the platforms. So construction taking place.

    Gas leak at Salisbury (18/04)

Actually the correct risk assessment is two part, the minor one being close the railway, the significant one is risk caused to passengers by forcing them to take unassessed alternatives eg buses and taxis The safe option is to assess and continue, not close and wing it that alternatives are safer.

Anyone noticed anecdotally another uptick in passenger numbers

Yes, certainly true in Bristol metro area. Already commented in Portsmouth-Cardiff thread, but this morning saw a 5car turbo set on Friday morning commuter service with about 90% of seats taken, including the middle seats. Some people talk as if negligible commuting on Fridays, but clearly is...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

Surely that only means additional screens showing same images, not additional cameras. Not going to be much difference if viewing it from car 10 instead of car 9. The important part (regarding screens) is the part of the train that can't easily be seen (front and middle), not the bit nearest...

    Portsmouth Harbour-Cardiff Central GWR

Looks like Friday commuting is booming again ! Just seen 1F06 Portsmouth - Cardiff at Bradford on Avon due 08:12 but 16 minutes late (formed 5cars, 165+166) and was about 90% full along whole train, middle seats were being used, clearly used as commuter service to Bath or Bristol. Kind of...

CrossCountry Trains advert banned over ‘insufficient’ free food and drink claims…

I rarely use XC first, but last time I did it was grumpy can't be bothered to offer you more than token selection, and it took over an hour before she bothered to come round. So ASA is correct, not right to advertise a service if it is patchy in its delivery. And if it's not available...

Potential up to 2,000 job losses at Alstom Derby

There was a debate in House of Lords yesterday on train manufacturing in UK, rather guarded answers, but linking the transcript https://www.parallelparliament.co.uk/debate/2024-04-17/lords/lords-chamber/rail-manufacturing-job-losses

Potential up to 2,000 job losses at Alstom Derby

I had read elsewhere (sorry can't find link now) that the Adessia is basically a new family name. The article suggested that Alstom want a standard modular software because unique software is delaying things and high risk, So seems it could easily be an Aventra bodyshells with different wiring...

HS2 Colne Valley Viaduct construction updates

    HS2 Progress near Kenilworth

Not sure which is best HS2 thread, but work has started on A43 bridge, with the dual carriageway slewed either side of work side. Drone and close up views and audio description from HS2 staff

If I already have a Photocard, do I need to present new photos when buying a Two Together railcard?

My problem is I have a two together photo card with both photos, but the online application needs new photos (not possible if second person isn't currently here), haven't found a way to bypass the photo requirement if buying online. Are there online retailers that let you use existing photos...

If I already have a Photocard, do I need to present new photos when buying a Two Together railcard?

My local station ticket office has been closed again (staff shortage), how do you renew a two together railcard. Tried GWR help, but they said have to pay full price for both tickets, even though the problem is caused by their lack of staffing, is that correct
