    Avanti West Coast Cancellations

Inside the new Hitachis there is no Avanti branding at all. They are all in the same design and colours as the refurbished pendos but the Avanti name is nowhere to be seen. Good literally take the name off the outside.

    Avanti West Coast Cancellations

Avanti drivers on strike again Friday 5th April. Despite the overtime offer the feeling between staff of all grades and management is beyond repair. I'm still expecting big news tomorrow.

All seat reservations activate part-way through GWR journey

I am an Avanti TM 1. I often have to reset the TMS. 2. I can change temperatures using the TMS system. 3. The train often departs without the headcode set up if the TMS is not working. I understand the OP referred to GWR service but Avanti services have been mentioned in the thread. Obviously...

All seat reservations activate part-way through GWR journey

The problem is the antiquated TMS. If the TMS hadn't downloaded the trip at the origin station the TM will try to perform a hard reset which is the equivalent of tripping switches on and off again. The seat reservation system will download automatically if this reset is successful. Without the...

Avanti platform staff bawling at passengers

I think some posters think the only approach staff take is straight to shouting. We make announcements about standing clear of the train if you are not intending to travel, we make calm announcements to remain behind yellow line. We also have to use of voices. There have been 100s of trains...

Avanti platform staff bawling at passengers

The people complaining about not being allowed to stand over the yellow line at a time they calculate to be safe are not the ones who could potentially have to answer a corporate manslaughter charge. If someone is ignored by staff and allowed to stand near the edge of a platform and a tragedy...

Avanti platform staff bawling at passengers

The staff are aware of the approaching train and aware of the potential dangers. Some of the public including yourself may also be. But many are oblivious. It's is impossible for staff to know which category the people on their platform fall into. I am struggling to understand what you are...

Avanti platform staff bawling at passengers

The only people in the dispatch corridor should be the platform staff and during a dispatch the guard/TM. Staff are able to move effectively up and down the platform safely over the yellow line if it is clear of the public. They are saftey critically trained so can and do cross the yellow line...

Avanti platform staff bawling at passengers

This sums up my experience perfectly as a platform dispatcher and as a TM dispatching.

Avanti platform staff bawling at passengers

Absolutely. The problem is many people don't and staff can't differentiate between two. Ultimately its not very pleasant to be shouted at it can embararras some people. But if it creates a strong memorable response in someone they are much less likely to put themselves in that position again.

Avanti platform staff bawling at passengers

The public are not making conscious decisions along the lines if " there is no train due for 7 mins so I will stand here for 5 then move to a position of safety." If other people see staff not challenging those standing next to platform edge they will conclude its fine to do it.

Avanti platform staff bawling at passengers

I was until very recently Avanti dispatch staff. Believe me when I say shouting in this manner is the only effective way of moving people out of the dispatch corridor. I would politely ask people when appropriate but when you have a rammed platform and a train arriving it is impossible to talk...

Starting as a CSA, how long for progression?

I previously applied for conductor roles with various TOCs and didn't get anywhere. I then successfully got the job as CSA. Its a really interesting job and a great way of learning about the railway and gaining experience. Once on the inside many roles are advertised internally, there is loads...

Avanti - Trainee Train Drivers - Multiple Locations (28/02/23)

I've applied to Manchester and like you, after the initial 5 test I've heard nothing. Not had the 28 day email.

    RDG proposals for new starters

I've recently been accepted into a talent bank with Avanti for a Train Manager role. I am currently a platform CSA. Under the recent proposals from the RDG I presume when/if I start the new role I would be considered a new starter. Therfore, am I correct in thinking after training I would not...

    Worried about Job security

Some really interesting points made. Thanks all. This ofcourse could not be relevant to me at all as I may not get the job. But if I'm offered it I'm deffinatley going to accept. Can't spend your life second guessing.

    Worried about Job security

My current role would appear to have more job security than my possible new one. We get high numbers of customer assists everyday. Often need to put the ramp down. Staff will always be needed at the Station for things like this. My current role is not well paid at all, the train manager job is a...

    Worried about Job security

I've been a CSA dispatcher for Avanti for a little over 6 months. I recently had an interview for train manager, still awaiting outcome. I'm a little worried about my job security in my current or possible new role. I am an RMT member and support the industrial action. I really can't see how DOO...
