Does anyone know anything about the HS1 route?

    Thanks, very helpful.

Does anyone know anything about the HS1 route?

Hey, I've just started an apprenticeship with NR and because we can't really get into the depot at the moment we've been sent some project work outside of the apprenticeship work whilst we're working from home. I've done a bit of research but there's a few things I don't have the answers to...

Are NR staff regarded as key workers?

And would a NR apprentice engineer also be classed as a key worker? Thanks

Why do people think railway maintenance is so well paid?

I've spoken to numerous people who have always said that maintenance/tech jobs are ridiculous money for a easy job. From what I've seen, it's a fair wage for a skilled job and rightly so there are premiums for nights and weekends etc. A NR employee from an assesment said to us once, "If you...

    Network Rail - Apprenticeship Salary

Thanks for the reply. It should be an interesting experience, especially at my age. Whenever my friends/family ask about the job, I can only describe it as train boarding school.

What's the food like? :p How did you find the period at Westwood? Is there enough to keep you busy in the evenings and how is the work load in terms of course work? Thanks

Differences between working for NR High Speed and just NR?

Hi all, I've just been looking at my paperwork and notice that my apprenticeship contract is with NR to go onto a depot on the HS1. Would that mean that I would be working the entire HS1 stretch for the duration of the apprenticeship and are there any major differences in working high speed...

    Network Rail - Apprenticeship Salary

This is a great thread for any future apprentices or anyone just looking to step into NW. ZombieLaydee you seem very well informed. Out of curiosity, does the work for your discipline vary much between day and night shifts? I remember one of my friends who is now a planning manager was always...

    Network Rail - Apprenticeship Salary

Contract came through yesterday and the wages have gone up slightly. The stay is 24 weeks which my wife noticed as when I started applying, the stay was 21 weeks. Not an issue as I'll still be driving home at weekend to see the family. Can anyone please tell me roughly what the Monday to Friday...

    Network Rail - Apprenticeship Salary

I'll be based at Gravesend (Singlewell) doing the lines. It's an hour commute from home but the location is pretty good and I imagine the work will involve Kent/London areas. I think competition down this way is fierce. I heard that 5000 people applied for the 150 places on the course but don't...

    Network Rail - Apprenticeship Salary

Operative route seemed great for starting on a good salary but I never bothered as I just don't have relevant experience. Even the apprenticeship wasn't easy to get. I applied in Sept 2018 and found out I was unsuccessful in Feb 2019. Then applied again in March and had the assessment in May to...

    Network Rail - Apprenticeship Salary

Thanks for taking the time to write that reply! Sounds like a great scheme to get a new career started. I'm doing OH lines so can't see myself being of much use for a while. I didn't realise people would have to stay off site for accommodation. Hopefully it isn't too far to the canteen...

    Network Rail - Apprenticeship Salary

Sounds like you made a good choice there! Did you overtime as an apprentice at all? Three years seems so far off before getting good pay but at least you're there now!

    Network Rail - Apprenticeship Salary

I'm taking a cut of +50% to do this apprenticeship knowing that in 3 years I could earn more than an office job is ever going to pay me. It's going to be a tight 3 years though considering I still have children and a mortgage to pay for.

    Network Rail Apprenticeship - delays

Thanks. I know someone who is currently doing S&T and is really enjoying it so hopefully you'll like it. I'll be based at Gravesend in Kent. It's literally an hour commute for me but the apprenticeship opportunity is too good to miss.

    Network Rail Apprenticeship - delays

I was down as a reserve on the September intake and they offered me a place for the March intake back in September.

    Network Rail Apprenticeship - delays

They sent me a letter today letting me know that my application is under review to see if I make it through to the next stage. Obviously some mistake as I'm also awaiting medical and contract. Hopefully won't be long for everyone.

    Network Rail Apprenticeship - delays

Not sure if any upcoming apprentices are on here but having spoke to Ambertrack today I have been advised - Written offers are due out in the next 2 weeks with medical appointments to follow. Not sure why they're so far behind but don't panic if you don't have your formal offers yet!
