You know you’re getting older when……

Similarly, you can just remember listening to Jack Di Manio presenting Today on the BBC Home Service. He was renowned for his inability to read the time.

Shortest UK car number plate you've seen

Several years ago I saw A2 on the A2. I can’t remember what make of car it was but it wasn’t anything special.

You know you’re getting older when……

Blimey Ashley, that puts you on a pedestal. Foil top piercing wasn’t even an option when I was at school but ringing the bell for break time or lunchtime was a real accolade.

You know you’re getting older when……

A wide variety on Radio 2 yes but in the 1980s when Jimmy Young was still broadcasting, Messers Munro and Doonican were definitely still being played. I can hear them on my grandmother’s wireless right now together with the steamy atmosphere of whatever was cooking on the stove!

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

I never had that problem with Izal toilet paper which my landlady supplied in my student digs in the early 80’s. Don’t know if it’s still available but it was like attending to your rear area with tracing paper

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

Toilet paper where the inner and outer two-ply sheets are really badly out of line with each other!

    Members named after stations

I’d love to think there’s a Martin Mill out there somewhere who just happens to be a rail enthusiast. If there is I’ve got one of his BR(S) running in boards! As for my user name I’m very much like 75A in post #2 with a huge Brighton influence

Ticket machines: Why has QWERTY been abandoned?

On a ticket vending machine you’re never going to be typing very much so ABC format isn’t a problem. Interesting observation on a qwerty keyboard is that the letters are jumbled but the numbers are not.

Artists impressions/mock-ups/etc that never came to fruition?

A 1964 model from the studio of Wilkes & Ashmore of what was to become the APT. It’s clearly influenced by the Japanese Bullet Train of the same era 1711957855 Also from Wilkes & Ashmore are some pre-production cab designs for the Class 55 Deltics. Not quite as built but not far from.
