Overground Trainee Driver - Harlesden and SE London, Feb '21 & Aug '21

There is Aircon in the building. A polo shirt i should think would be fine. Just look neat and tidy and be comfortable as lot of the first week is what it says on the tin induction. Lots of introductions and information. Handing out of equipment going over the course etc. You will get your...

Pretty sure they are smaller localised groups now (Ell/Nll) so should be roughly those hours.

Uniform is in the first few weeks! Used to be a fitting but I think its just being ordered now. You will get a course layout of dates and topics areas (DTs) on your first day induction. Usually your annual leave during the course will be given aswell.

Vision, hearing, drugs and alcohol screen. Weight and height. Then they strap you up to a heart rate machine and measure that.

Has been slightly different over covid due to class sizes, was 1 day on 1 day off at some points. I believe these class sizes are going to be smaller though amd will revert back to mon-friday. Only thing you still cant do atm is front ending.

This is not fully true, there is a slight backlog due to the issue with covid initially. With the groups ahead being held up due to the restrictions during the major lockdown period in which in cab training was stopped full stop. 2 training groups that started in Jan/Feb didn't start their...

Whilst this is true, the way the course is structured, there is plenty of room for new trainees to start. The course is split into modules and your friend if waiting for a DI is halfway through those. This would also be dependent on which depot he applied for as the training is the same but the...

I find it strange that people haven't heard back from stage 2 considering the computer based tests don't need to be sent to be marked. They know right there and then whether you pass or not. Only difference being the MMI.

Additionally south hampstead is a couple mins walk away. Which is 1 stop from Euston and on the Euston to Watford Junction route.

I think there are a few courses this year, it makes sense to do 1 intake for all. They may be prioritising to get people ready for the 1st course which is why some bits may be moving faster than others. At this point in time I'd suggest no news is good news.

You are in the exact same position i was in. Had done everything with another company, but the company had done the VSE online too so I had to re-do it in a supervised environment. In this case the VSE has been added as a pre sift possibly to cut more people from the assessment days due to...

How many chances do you get, when applying for a Trainee Train Driver role?

Don't forget also if you pass to national standard and then take the test again to try and obtain an "enhanced" standard if you do worse than your original attempt it will overwrite that national pass. Essentially you are only as good as the last time you took the test. It really can be a bit of...

Once it all gets going Arriva move pretty quickly. I went from being contacted after assements to enquire about depots, to DMI, medical and start training within a month. Others in my group have simular experiences of 6-8weeks

Its designed to make you multi task, whilst prioritising a primary task. The whole point is to fluster you. Remain calm, recover if it goes a bit wrong and most of all focus on that primary task don't get too distracted by the secondary task.

Have those of you invited for VSE done it before? Have you completed stages 1 and 2? I know freightliner used a VSE as a form of pre sift when I sat with them a couple of years ago.

When I applied, during rush hour time it takes me 1 in the car or even more. But if I have to get in during rush hour I use the train which takes me 30/35 mins. Any other time driving is usually before 6am or after 12am and I have 2 route options both taking be roughly 40mins. I explained that...

    Previous experience before applying

I think it could be a combination of everything said. Initially I managed to get past the 1st sift on a big recruitment drive by freightliner, where as possibly overlooked in others. I did well on those tests which enabled me to apply for a different TOC whilst sitting in a talent pool. I feel...
