Plym Valley Railway English Electric Bank Holiday Weekend!

Cracking, another chance to sample the 'Royal Oak'! I must say I do like the way you have been respectful of the name given to the loco, given the disaster that overcame the ship of that name. Having a renaming ceremony with a member of the crew was a lovely touch, and it certainly reflects the...

50017 "Royal Oak" running day at the Plym Valley Railway, Saturday June 9th 2012.

I travelled behind her on the last outing and the performance belied the length of track available. It was an excellent trip, and a credit to the hard work of the preservation group, in somewhat restricted facilities. The photos of the new NSE livery look amazing, I'll definitely be there again! :D

Kidwelly train crash farmer 'incredibly stupid'

What is the point of suing if they don't have the money? I doubt he has £182 behind the sofa, let alone £182k! :)

    Interesting incident at LTV

What's the problem? This is a forum for discussion of such topics, and I for one have learned a huge amount about SPADs in this thread. If there has been an error/mechanical fault of some kind I am sure it will be investigated fully, fairly and subjectively without the help of this forum. All...

Tavistock to Bere Alston possible reopening: what infrastructure could be required and what service provision might operate?

You are absolutely right, if this is developer led they will do the absolute minimum (the cheapest way) to meet their end of the contract. This will make the route slower and less attractive. Tavy-Plymouth is a really worthwhile route, and the railway could compete with the car/bus easily if...

    Telegraph: Staff Travel 'angers commuters'

Is this possible? Can you get a duck house with a priv?

    Telegraph: Staff Travel 'angers commuters'

LOL! This post is a wind up, surely? How can someone be so rude without understanding the poster's point? I believe the point being made was that it is relevant even though there are only a few people with the perks. People certainly did not think the expenses scandal was irrelevant even though...

    Telegraph: Staff Travel 'angers commuters'

Why were there so few prosecutions then, if they outlandishly flouted the law? My point is what do they have to do with this Telegraph report?

    Telegraph: Staff Travel 'angers commuters'

What has this got to do with MPs? Ironically the very assessment you make about all MPs comes from the same sources as you are criticising! By all means have a go at the offending article, but don't use it as an excuse to have a go at MPs, not all of whom fit in your description.

Tavistock to Bere Alston possible reopening: what infrastructure could be required and what service provision might operate?

There is a pretty rubbish road link to compete with this, so this would be an excellent addition to the local infrastructure. How they work this with the Gunnislake service will be interesting, as there are no passing loops anywhere until Plymouth!

    That's a punishment, not a perk!

    Telegraph: Staff Travel 'angers commuters'

The report was about 'likely anger of commuters' rather than their own personal attack on rail staff. Therefore your comment about their benefits system is not relevant. The article is not news however, and this will be reflected by the lack of people who read it!

Agree, the Berlin Haupbahnhof is amazing.

    Train services through the night

Are we forgetting the fact that a station will only take you from A to B? That's ok if you live near a station but its no good getting a train to your nearest station then having to get a bus or taxi the rest of the way. A car has definite advantages at night, and there are less people on the...

As asked for..Best pub near station thread

The Tamar Inn, nr. Calstock Station. You get to go over the epic Calstock viaduct and then appreciate it from the pub garden with a pint of fine ale. The food is good, too.
