    ScotRail HST formations

Good luck with fitting sanders......been look at many times during the HSTs career and always deemed not enough room. I believe 143 gained the new power handle when it fell off whilst working an evening Pad-Hereford service back in Valenta days. It stuck in Notch 1 in Ledbury tunnel and the...

    ScotRail HST formations

It wasn't the only one. 43143 also had a long power handle. 1667805885 Well......maybe FGW or Scotrail should have fitted the KB WSP system alongside the new Brush electronics. Short term economy ends up being long term pain.

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

You're just twisting words. Climate change is a domestic issue along with a screwed economy, strikes, and everything else. As 43096 said, he couldn't win.

Seven pounds for ten minutes next to Flying Scotsman?

Think folks are missing an important point here. London King's Cross (KGX) is an NR station, so how much of the fee is going to NR and how much to the NRM? Or is the NRM getting preferential treatment even though it is a government body?

    GNER MK3 LHCS?

The pics I've seen of the GF GNER Mk3's suggest they're Mk3b's, not a's. Single square air vent on the vestibules instead of the snail shells.

    Double headed locos.

If what you say was true then that does make the 45+ year old HST a bit of a dead duck, doesn't it?

37/4 - why the ETH limit?

Err.....maximum power draw on air con stock is when it is very cold. On a Mk3 for instance that's 24kW of heating. The air con (cooling) is nowhere near that much power draw. And I am an electrical engineer.

37/4 - why the ETH limit?

Correct! 1641840224 I thought some owners of 37/4's now have upped the ETH index to around 66 by fitting large gauge cable and changed the THOL setting.

37/4 - why the ETH limit?

The restriction was only in the wiring and the setting of the overload relays. The alternator was the same type and style as used on ETH 47's 45/1's, 31/4's with an ETH index of 66.

HSTs running above 125mph in the early days

The limiting factor is, in fact, the traction motors. Both motors (Brush and GEC) are pretty much at the limit at around 130mph and by 135mph you're risking the armature turning into a knotted mess. Have seen the aftermath of a motor overspeed (about 145mph due to uncorrected WSP) and it was...

HSTs running above 125mph in the early days

As 43096 says, the engines didn't get damaged due to the high speeds; they're diesel electric anyway so that's an interesting theory...... The speed limiting was originally done - and still is on GWR cars - by an overspeed output grafted onto the BR Wheel Slip Protection (WSP) rack, which then...

Class 43 LNER Farewell Railtour Dec 2019

I'd put money on it being the money to paint the set. I doubt many on here realise how much painting a coach or power car costs....... If Wabtec are painting the set then you won't see much change from £200K!!!
