When using an advance ticket, do you have to use it EXACTLY as specified....

Your right not to have fines levied by any other authority than that of the legal authorities is an absolute right . It is almost certainly in statute law that means Magna Carta ,Bill of rights etc. That right cannot be overuled by any other authority. Tesco & SWT are not the law. they must...

If you went to Tesco and they said you cant put your trolley here it's in the terms and conditions and look here you ticked the box then you would instantly see it was wrong because Tesco is not the law and that is what people feel if SWT does the same thing.

If you went to Tesco and they said sorry mate your trolleys in the wrong place thats a £20 fine you'd be pretty ****ed of.

EM2 : South-West trains does not have the right to levy fines on its conditions because it is a private company. It must adhere to the conditions which prevail under the law and then it might be entitled to do so. These conditions are laid down by the NCOC according to PTF & Anvil. The couple...

Yes I agree with you hairyhanded that the company is entitled to place any restrictions it likes . However as a private company it can have no say in restricting the normal rights of the passenger . It is up to the law to decide what those rights are PTF62 says : Ending a journey early falls...

"Please note that the departure and arrival times displayed are for the main terminus points you selected. I agree that no infringement has taken place if these same rules applied to all passengers but I cant find out if that is the case.

When using an advance ticket, do you have to use it EXACTLY as specified....

Yes I think you might have some difficulty defending that in court . I am not a lawyer however. I would argue that the conditions on the ticket might be justified in affecting the quality of the service ie they could place severe restrictions on the time you travel etc .They could not be used to...

Re the Eastleigh Couple . I am not sure if I have arrived on the right site because I am just looking at this from the point of view of the consumer and I think this couple have been treated very badly . However can someone tell me : If someone leaves a train early does the company normally...

When using an advance ticket, do you have to use it EXACTLY as specified....

Only possibly.. The passenger is entitled to the same rights as he would have had if he had paid for a full priced ticket. So any conditions the company might make which infringe those rights are invalid . If a shop sell goods in a sale the purchaser has the same rights as he would have if he...

No it isnt the equivalent because the bus is inconvenienced by the detour but all it means to the train is that there is one less passenger.

This is in response to an earlier thread as well :"Couple fined for alighting early at Eastleigh" When the company sells you a ticket then that is a contract between you and the company . The company is under an obligation to provide the service provided at the AGREED price . The company cannot...

Couple fined for alighting early at Eastleigh

I agree with merlodlliw I think it would be thrown out of court . In the case of the ferry company starrymarkb what if the customer had missed the departure would the company have been entitled to raise the price ?

Couple fined for alighting early at Eastleigh

The question you should be asking them is : How does it inconvenience the company so that they feel they are justified in levying a fine ? I cannot see how it costs them a cent but perhaps someone can enlighten me

Couple fined for alighting early at Eastleigh

The cheapness of the ticket has absolutely no relevance to this matter. It is a commercial company and it exists to make a profit. The price they choose to charge for their tickets is up to them .

Couple fined for alighting early at Eastleigh

Many people have been depressed by this story. It confirms the contempt the rail companies hold for their passengers. I have taken this matter forward in this way : I have written to the company : Customer Services megabus.com/megatrain.com Buchanan Bus Station Killermont St Glasgow...
