Odd TPE service: 1P09 1844 Manchester Airport to Darlington

My guess is for keeping route knowledge for York TPE drivers to Darlington. Real Time Trains shows it as a 3 car 185 terminating in platform 3, so a rare chance to see a 185 at Darlington! https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:C12320/2024-03-28/detailed#allox_id=0 There used to be an...

Lumo - Apprentice Customer Driver - Newcastle (13/03/24)

See the driver depot thread at the top of the Careers section. There is one link and all drivers sign Edinburgh - Kings Cross as well as the Hertford Loop and York Avoiding lines.

Horrendous Hull Trains East Coast ride

That was definitely the track that was the problem there. Network Rail replaced that section of track a few months ago and it's much smoother. In my experience of travelling passenger on various 80x comfort depends on where you sit within the carriage, and the closer to the bogies you sit the...

West Midlands Class 323 - the final countdown

Are there likely to be 323s still running in Birmingham in July? I'm staying there for a weekend and wouldn't mind getting a trip on one on the Cross City line before they go.

    Toc to Open Access

Correct. Lumo also have the same agreement with Cross Country. As per the thread, the main difference from franchised (I know they're not franchised, what do we call them now?) TOC to Open Access TOC is the pension, being defined contribution rather than the old railway defined benefit pension.

Different Driver Depot, Route and Traction cards

Got a quick question regarding Avanti West Coast for drivers that sign to Glasgow. On this thread it lists Glasgow including various diversions around Glasgow. Does anyone have a list of which routes these diversions include for Avanti drivers?

Class 80x driving question (possibly others too)

It was sometime in 2021 north of York so I heard, very similar circumstances to the TPE overspeed incident.

Class 80x driving question (possibly others too)

The limiter also controls the brakes, at least on the 80x I sign.

Class 80x driving question (possibly others too)

On the 80x stock I drive the speed limiter defaults to 125mph and can't be switched off or increased over this amount. This was brought in after TPE and LNER both had overspeed incidents around 145mph. Perfectly acceptable to leave the power on and let the limiter do its thing.

    Lumo - Qualified Driver - Newcastle (17/01/24)

No. Lumo staff get Priv passes, just like any other passenger TOC, plus the First Group boxes.

    Stations with water refill points

The one at Newcastle is on platform 4 next to a vending machine about halfway along the platform. I use it regularly. Could do with one or two more dotted about near the concourse though.

    Rolling stock stabling outside York

Yes railtour stock is stabled there quite a lot aswell.

    Rolling stock stabling outside York

Whenever I'm driving past I almost always see a test train stabled there, usually 37 plus DBSO or top-and-tail 37s. Holgate sidings are also used in times of disruption to stable stock that has had to terminate at York, normally TPE and Northern or even Lumo on very rare occasions!

    GWR Coupling Hatches

I think the main concern is a bird or other animal strike damaging the coupler or any air pipes or isolation cocks exposed by the coupler doors being open, but at least they're still out in traffic. Do the units with open hatches have coupling restrictions as well?

    ECML Disruption at Biggleswade 23/12

Tree touching the wires on the Down Slow near Biggleswade. Down Fast line is open to traffic so hopefully not too much disruption.

New East Linton Station - Progress & Updates

It is in RTT but for some reason doesn't list East Linton as a calling point.

Hull trains to St Pancras this Sunday, 3rd Dec

Yes it's a return trip. Best they can do really with the circumstances and lack of electrified diversion routes.

Hull trains to St Pancras this Sunday, 3rd Dec

Lumo are running one train as far as Peterborough with a rail replacement coach to London from there.

Wheelchair user unable to board Azuma in reverse configuration at Kings Cross

I sign Kings Cross and platform 5 is the only platform where this is an issue, due to where they put the escalator after the station was last refurbished (around 2009ish?). As a result, my TOC (not LNER) instruct us to stop adjacent to the clock before the buffer stop rather than at the buffer...
