    A career as a signaller

I cover Park Junction as part of my relief role. I don't have the exact roster for the residents but it is a 12 hour roster working 3 or 4 days a week with a block of 8 days off every 4th week. The residents also get 2 Sundays each month (1 day shift, 1 night shift).

Congratulations. Park is one of the boxes that I cover so will likely bump into you at some point. It is a brilliant box I love it there. A real shame that it is eventually going.

    A career as a signaller

Hi Jack. I was placed on a reserve list and had a welcomed phone call a few months late offering me a position as a pool signaller on a 12 month ftc. I then went to signalling school within weeks and got a permanent position whilst there. And I have since moved on to a relief position which...

    A career as a signaller

It wasnt for the same job that I applied for - it was for a pool signaller position - so basically got taken on on a 12 month FTC, went to signalling school and had to apply for permanent positions whilst there. I secured a position by the end of signalling school, and have since moved on to a...

I was on a reserve list and got a nice surprise phone call a few months later to see if I still wanted to be a signaller. Very soon after I was on my way to York to start signalling school.

A wealth of information at a very quick pace. A lot of hard work and practice on the simulator. Hopefully meet some great people. A lot of food! Above all, I found it very enjoyable and would love to go back but the work needs to be put in to not get left behind. What box will you be working...

    A career as a signaller

Congratulations! I'm just over a year in to my career as a signaller and I can honestly say I love my job and going to work. Probably for the first time in my life. Enjoy it, take in as much knowledge as you can, don't be scared to ask for help/advice from other signallers. Good luck in your...

    A career as a signaller

I was on a reserve list following an interview. I got offered a position as a pool signaller a few months later when a signalling school position became available. It was a 12 month FTC. I then applied for permanent positions whilst at school and secured one before leaving. I have since moved on...

    A career as a signaller

Note to mods: Not necessarily a 'career as a signaller' question, so feel free to remove if breaking rules. I have a few T3's on this coming week and on one of them it states 'possession cut for TRV558'.. Could any signallers on here tell me what this means? Have checked with the more...

    A career as a signaller

When I got taken on I got informed of my signalling school place on the Wednesday, received joining instructions on the Thursday then travelled to York on the Sunday! A whirlwind of emotions that week!

My personal opinion.. Apply for any positions within a reasonable commute. You don't want to end up missing out then kicking yourself down the line because you didn't apply for jobs and then none come up on the internal list for a long time. I was grateful to just be given the chance of being...

I was given the Tuesday off as I had a long travel back after my observation. Others on the course had the rest of the week off (but bear in mind some of them had observations late in the week as it is only 2 people per day). As mentioned above, check with your LOM nearer the time is your...

Are you referring to the final observation week? If so, you will only be required at signalling school on the day of your observation. For example, my observation was scheduled for the Monday AM so I stayed in hotel on the Sunday then travelled straight back on the Monday after my...

Ouch, would have saved a lot of hassle if they had just done it correctly in the first place. Did they just take the pay from your next pay packet so that tax etc gets taken into account? I have just been given a verbal offer for a relief position so I will clarify with my new LOM re FP pay...

Good evening all. When being interviewed as an internal candidate and the interview is 'competency based' does this refer to the questions being based around rules and regs (with the 8 NTS's factored in)? I.e 'If you had a train approaching from XXX and you received 6 bells from XXX what...

I finished at York at the end of last year. There is definitely no need to learn anything prior, it will just blow your mind. Everything you need to learn will be taught to you at the right time and at the right pace. It is worth brushing up on the phonetic alphabet but that is it really...

You will be paid a grade below whilst at signalling school and until you pass out. I.e if you are going to a grade 3 box you will get paid grade 2 at school and until you pass out in the box

I just wasn't sure if it was a company-wide decision or just local as I have been in the box since mid December. On the plus side it gives me plenty of time to prepare for my rules test.
