Years worth of rail card misuse finally found

You said you had evaded 75 times. You’ve calculated you evaded £450 worth of fares, meaning the average ticket cost was £6. I’m not sure this is correct.

Years worth of rail card misuse finally found

You need to calculate the full anytime single journey price for each evasion, and then add on £150 - £250 for GWR’s investigation costs. Which stations were your journeys between?

Years worth of rail card misuse finally found

GWR seem quite reasonable in offering out of court settlements, given the level of evasion/fraud it won’t be cheap to settle with them. Other, more experienced members will be along shortly to advise.

Is it ever worth going to court?

Interesting to know, thank you. I thought they could only prosecute under specific legislation.

Is it ever worth going to court?

Could the railway even bring a private prosecution for fraud or would the CPS need to be involved?

Ticket on train confusion - penalty fare

You are required to have a valid ticket at the point of boarding the train. Did you?

Got caught touching in on exit gates for over a year

Surely it would only be considered with the original offence if the defendant asked for the other offences to be taken into consideration at sentencing?

GOT CAUGHT USING 11-15 OYSTER. HELP!!

So you did have a card that you could have used to pay. You just chose not to use it? I think you can imagine how this will look from TFL’s point of view? They prosecute on most occasions, because they have heard every sob story under the sun. You are clearly guilty of a byelaw offence, I...

GOT CAUGHT USING 11-15 OYSTER. HELP!!

In your very first post you say ”I didnt think of paying using my card” So you do have a card which you could have used to pay, which you chose not to use?

GOT CAUGHT USING 11-15 OYSTER. HELP!!

Ok, specific points. You say in your ending paragraphs “This is the first and last time”. Is this true? TFL will be aware most people are not caught on the first time they attempt to fare-dodge.

No update from the original poster. Please start your own thread as every case is different, even if they appear similar.

GOT CAUGHT USING 11-15 OYSTER. HELP!!

I do hope you have not sent that. It’s far too long. TFL will have heard most of that before and it resorts to pleading at points “It will ruin me“ is totally incorrect and over dramatic. Please tell me you’ve not sent that?!

GOT CAUGHT USING 11-15 OYSTER. HELP!!

Also try to stop relating the money you have been scammed out of, with any penalty you are likely to have to pay. They are two completely unrelated things.

GOT CAUGHT USING 11-15 OYSTER. HELP!!

Is this the first time you have done this or have you done it before? TFL will likely look for similar journey patterns indicating possible further misuse.

GTR fare evasion for 5 months

Sadly I fear the outcome of this exercise will end up costing you a lot of money regardless. i‘d advise saving or arranging access to money, you may need to pay a settlement at short notice and you will usually have to pay in one go.

GTR fare evasion for 5 months

Honest question. Why, as an educated professional, once you had been caught once did you continue? Did you not think they would catch you again? The £65 penalty was meant to be a warning.

    Delay Repay overpayment again!

Ok, would you keep £500 say?

    Delay Repay overpayment again!

This is actually quite interesting. What level of overpayment of DR would be considered unacceptable? The consensus was pretty much keep/donate the £44. What if it had been £100? £200?

    Prosecution Notice

Of course you can put in a counter offer but they may not accept it and move straight to court. I’d settle just for peace of mind but it is your choice.
