P7 Off-Peak Restriction: 16:03 from PAD to PNZ

Oh, I forgot that using abbreviations was frowned upon. Funnily enough, not using abbreviations is frowned upon in forums dealing with airlines  Yes, SAU is St Austell. GWR is selling the service as London PAD to St Austell. Of course, life's perhaps too short to argue at the barriers...

P7 Off-Peak Restriction: 16:03 from PAD to PNZ

Hi All, I got an Off-Peak Travelcard with the P7 restriction, which prevents using the 16:03 GWR service from PAD to PNZ. However, I found that this service won't exist during the next two weeks. It is now the 16:03 GWR service from PAD to SAU. Does that mean that one is technically allowed...

DR entitlement due to a knock-on delay caused by the Elizabeth Line?

According to BRtimes, HAY is a small station with a 3 min minimum connection time.

DR entitlement due to a knock-on delay caused by the Elizabeth Line?

Posting here before my memory fades :) Any help would be appreciated. Edit, as per request: HXX (Heathrow Terminals 2 & 3), OXF (Oxford), HAY (Hayes & Harlington), SLO (Slough), GWR (Great Western Railway), TfL (Transport for London), PAYG (Pay-as-you-go). 1.- Today (28-09-2022), I purchased...

Strikes, TOCs' refusal of alternative routes/tickets travel on strike days and Consumer Rights Act / Contractual Law

So TOCs get all the benefits from our archaic justice system (strict liability, criminal prosecutions) and little to no enforcement against them when it comes to respecting passenger's rights (Rail Ombudsman? Haha). Sweeping reforms cannot come quickly enough.

Strikes, TOCs' refusal of alternative routes/tickets travel on strike days and Consumer Rights Act / Contractual Law

At the end of the day, this is all a fun -but useless- thought exercise. EU261/UK261 was functionally defined on the basis of court cases. If you look at the pure text, it doesn't contain many of the provisions we take for granted these days. For some reason, it seems that customers (and...

Are you entitled to keeping your ticket when exiting barriered stations?

I guess the title is self-explanatory :) My employer has recently started strongly encouraging us to keep receipts and the actual tickets when processing expenses claims. Putting this (rather odd) move aside, I wonder whether staff at barriered stations will happily let you pass through if you...

Out of curiosity, which TOCs enable you to buy tickets online without having to register for an account? Chiltern, Grand Central?

Thanks! It seems Chiltern is the only one still offering free postage? I know Grand Central used to offer this (pre-COVID), but now they charge for this. Other TOCs offer free postage but only if the value of tickets is above a certain amount.

Out of curiosity, which TOCs enable you to buy tickets online without having to register for an account? Chiltern, Grand Central?

I am well aware of the advantages (and disadvantages!) of creating an account vs. checking out as a guest. I do believe that TOCs should not force you to create an account in order to buy a ticket, but maybe I'm in the minority here. *Chiltern appears to allow checkout guest AND offers free...

Taken to court because of lack of railcard

I am surprised they decided to levy charges against you without any previous attempt to settle or to ask for your version of the events. Are you sure/confident this is the first communication you received after the incident? I would strongly suggest, in no uncertain terms, that you immediately...

    Delay Repay claims rejected

Moreover, insurers are regulated by the Financial Ombudsman. Whilst I have been disappointed by how long they take to look at cases, they charge medium/large businesses some 700 GBP for each case they received. Thus, there is an incentive (however minor) to fix things before they reach that...

Delay Repay: After Paddington problems, driver suggested alternative that was actually slower than waiting it out. GWR won't pay out completely

Final update: The Rail Ombudsman got GWR to pay up. They'll cover the total cost of my ticket, minus the 25% they had already refunded. Of course the extra 50% (originally, I was due a 50% refund) does not cover all the time I invested on this, but hey, I'll take this.

Rail Ombudsman - any experiences to date

You are very lucky to find these examples, to be honest. What fraction of elegible people submit a Delay Repay claim? And what sub-fraction appeal, after 10-20 days, a claim that was denied in bad faith? And of those, what fraction would ask for a letter of deadlock the appeal is mindlessly...

Rail Ombudsman - any experiences to date

I second robbeech's post. Issued a claim against abusive practices from GWR, and it seems the Rail Ombudsman bows and merrily eats anything that TOCs spite.

    Delay Repay claims rejected

This, I agree. That's why TOCs screw everyone: who is going to pursue, to the bitter end, a <80 GBP DR claim that was denied in bad faith? The court can award discretionary charges, which might cover (or not) these fees. They can also order additional fees if one can show the TOC acted in bad...

    Delay Repay claims rejected

I think the only meaningful resource we have at our disposition is to start civil proceedings (MCOL) against abusive TOCs. Whereas we, the customers, are in the 'losing side' of the equation if we pursue -to the bitter end- a DR claim denied in bad faith by a TOC, the tides turn the moment an...

Delay Repay: After Paddington problems, driver suggested alternative that was actually slower than waiting it out. GWR won't pay out completely

I was travelling, on the 26/09/2021, on the 10:13 WOS to PAD service by GWR, expecting to arrive at 12:34 h. However, the train suddenly stopped at RDG, and we were informed by the train driver that PAD was closed due to problems with electrical works, and no ETA. Driver suggested taking the...

Settlement of £1,433 for travelling with an out of date railcard

Can you upload the letter, censoring private information? This can offer some insights about the figure you quote. Please upload the letter and we take it from there.

Settlement of £115.50 for 'Failing to show a valid rail ticket' (due to expired railcard) - help please!

I agree from a moral perspective, but the thing is that a Magistrate will look at the law and convict in 2 seconds or less. So an honest mistake doesn't deserve a 115 GBP, but paying this and avoiding ruination of your life does. It's a bargain, really.
