    Paris Métro stock

I was on this line the week before last and travelled on one of these, though my journey in the other direction was one of the newer (MP14?) sets. Wasn't a gricing trip mind and I'm not to au fait with metro stock but I did note the older feel. :)

Downpatrick Diesel Gala 6th January 2024

Emails have been sent to all customers whether they booked via DCDR or Táilte Tours detailing the situation and refund etc. I'm a volunteer with both groups it's quite a depressing time at the moment but DCDR can and will bounce back, it's heartening though to read the well wishing emails...

    Track machines hauling passenger trains?

Certainly has happened in preservation, such as at the DCDR 2012 gala:https://www.flickr.com/photos/gm_076/8115911642

Irish Railway Record Society "The Token Exchange" Railtour

Great day out from Team IRRS yesterday, relaxed atmosphere, great mileage. Certainly for me and many others it was first time traversing the Nenagh branch in an ICR set, I think the first railtour to allow travel over the direct connection from the Ballybrophy bay to the mainline since the RPSI...

Unprecedented numbers of modern traction in storage?

In Ireland some at least one of the Alstom 82/8400 class EMUs has spent 2/3 of its life in storage away from the wires (8204+8404), with the remainder of the class only seeing about 8 years in traffic. One has recently been cut in half for use as a training facility.

    CrossCountry HST Diagrams

43239 was on rear of the 06:06 Edinburgh-Plymouth on Friday gone (with 43303 on front)... take it this must have been its last run? (I see from Liam L's post in the thread that a different set worked the return).

    Jacobite cancellations 2023

In Northern Ireland the RPSI power their mk2 set CDL via a generator fitted to a mk2 brake, so it minimises the impact on seat loss (they used to run it with a full generator van). It can't be beyond the bounds of possibility to do similar in GB?

450 Class running day at Downpatrick

Just a little bit of notice, DCDR will be using their preserved 450 class 'thumper' unit on their services on Sunday 13th August. https://www.downrail.co.uk/event/summerdiesel/

    DART Unit in Drogheda

Common enough, you'll occasionally see them dragged to Inchicore by 29000 CAFs as well. Much more efficient than in loco hauled days, when they'd often be sent to Grand Canal Dock to run around to avoid clogging up Connolly. Miss the sound of a Bo-Bo chugging across the city with one in tow...

    CIE Metrovick 226 in song

A sound for sore ears, the ITG's 226 with engine running while on display at Carrick-on-Suir during the visit of the "Suir Lee Knot" railtour to the station, 15th April 2023.

New blog on IÉ 2600 class, covering livery variants and more

As part of the build up to our "Suir Lee Knot" tour, we've updated our blog with an article on the story of the 2600 class so far, complete with pictures of all the livery variants they've carried in service to date. https://www.tailtetours.com/post/the-2600-class-the-railcars-that-keep-on-going

Táilte Tours "Suir Lee Knot" 2600 class railtour 15th April 2023

For the track bashers out there, we have requested that the train operate via Tipperary loop on the outbound leg, which rarely sees passenger (or any!) trains. 1678872546 Through the kind co-operation of our friends in the Irish Traction Group, we are pleased to confirm that their 1956-vintage C...

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

I got the 11:30(?) ex Cardiff from Chester to Holyhead on Monday (67017 for those wondering), have to say I was very impressed with the comfort standard of the mk4s. Didn't strike me as clapped out at all.

    Intercity Push/Pull Railtour

My first time doing a railtour in GB. Great show all round. Friday was a nice entrée, plenty of time to see a bit of Edinburgh off the train too. (our experience was an inverse to the old trope of English gricers getting the ferry to Ireland for a railtour!). Atmosphere seemed great all round...
