Is it time to raise motor fuel duty?

This whole forum is based on hypothetical comments. And of course you read it opposite to what was said.

Is it time to raise motor fuel duty?

Where did I PROPOSE that everyone should abandon their car? I actually said IF, to demonstrate that the public transport network could not cope. Please don't tell lies, its defamation of character.

Is it time to raise motor fuel duty?

Thats half the problem, why would people leave their car, that they would have anyway, for the stuff the bus cannot fulfil, to use a bus. How many buses per hour would have to run, hypotheticaly to replace all the traffic between Pontefract and Wakefield?

Is it time to raise motor fuel duty?

If everyone abandoned their car tomorrow, to use the train or bus, the country would grind to a halt. I live in a little place called Ackworth, the bus is once an hour and can hold approximately 70(?) people. Go figure. It could not cope. I don't have a problem discussing it, but this is a...

Is it time to raise motor fuel duty?

For starters anyone who works for Public Transport (with unsocial hours) and where it is physically impossible to get to work on none existent public transport, to make the public transports wheels even start turning that morning. Using myself as an example, if I use Public Transport to get to...

Covid restrictions abroad: updates & observations

Not wanting to hijack, but we went to Aushwitz last week. An amzaing experience. If you feel peckish and don't want a plastic sandwich, give the Perogi Bar a try oposite Oswiecim Station, over the road, right hand side. Polish Dumplings heaven.

Covid restrictions abroad: updates & observations

Was able to get back before the PCR test to return requirement comes in. Wasn't too bothered about the test when get back because we both work for Network Rail so exempt from Isolation and only have to do LFT. But for Germany its just not worth (potentially getting a positive PCR test back) and...

Is it time to raise motor fuel duty?

There have been many threads on here proving that owning and running a car is more expensive than public transport. Public transport is no good though, where there is no public transport.

Is it time to raise motor fuel duty?

More people have the choice to run/own a car, than use public transport. If I don't have a car, the trains don't run through Sheffield, because I have to be at work, before the first trains even start to run. As for buses, none existent. And as if I would swap my car for a bus anyway.

Is it time to raise motor fuel duty?

No. Not everyone can use public transport to get to work. Especially shift workers.

Covid restrictions abroad: updates & observations

Were going to Germany next week but not now after boris said we need to test to return to the UK, and we're not exempt from it. Not worth the risk of having to isolate abroad on a positive test result. 1638732301 Not done my Lateral Flow after returning from Poland last night. They didn't even...

    Good. A pointless token service.

    UK Trams Comparison

Currently in Poland, and used the extensive trams in Wroclaw, Kraków and Warsaw. Something is very noticeable, and that is how fast they travel amongst traffic and around tight corners. Why are ours so pathetically slow, Sheffield for example? Foreign trams seem so fuss free.

Omicron variant and the measures implemented in response to it

What happens if you don't actually do the PCR test, from Randox for example?

Omicron variant and the measures implemented in response to it

Didn't think would be allowed. Even lose my Sunday night at work now pending result from PCR, land at 11pm East Midlands, test place shut.

Omicron variant and the measures implemented in response to it

Well. Arrived in Krakow this evening to learn that the rules changed while at 37000 foot. Annoyed doesn't do how I feel justice. Hotel booked at East Midlands for return that we cannot now use, and we have 2 lateral flow test that cost 40 quid, now useless too.

Dreading it. Absolutely dreadiing it. And not just with regards travel, but WFH will kill the railway, again.
