    TFL merchant ID

TfL use Barclaycard as an Acquirer, so entirely possible!

    Wrong-side signalling failure at Wingfield

I knew someone was going to point this out ;) Depends on exactly which ETCS level and chosen method of train detection I believe, but yes. Plus of course, the modern equivalent of "connecting the wires up incorrectly" being analogous to returning the inverse boolean from your critical...

Euston departure board to be moved

It's rather ridiculous that the advertising screen is more prominent, visible and usable than the departure boards which have been relegated elsewhere. Remind me what the primary purpose of a station is again? It wasn't "public transport", by any chance... Perhaps if they're really desperate...

    Wrong-side signalling failure at Wingfield

In cab signalling doesn't suffer from this particular failure mode.

Solution reached to save Day Travelcards

    You'll need to show your working for: - the increased discount between a 16-25 and a Network Railcard - how £19.25 + £19.25 < £36.40

Solution reached to save Day Travelcards

I feel there have been a few sweeping statements by posters about this. If one looks at the time restrictions on the GW, you'll note that unless you're willing to sit on an EL train for an hour extra back to Reading (until around 7pm when the restrictions end) then Anytime tickets are the only...

Solution reached to save Day Travelcards

I'm pleased if this is the outcome, although the devil will be in the detail. I wrote several letters to elected representatives on this topic, and I know other members did likewise. I do think that without the attention this has received, maybe the outcome would have been different.

Problems with Railcard App- Now being prosecuted- What to do?

Surely you're not suggesting that a malfunctioning app, where the passenger has taken all reasonable steps such as adding their Railcard prior to travel, checking it was in date on the app before boarding, and keeping the device & app up to date, should render the passenger liable? I'm aware...

TfL proposes to withdraw Day Travelcards

https://busandtrainuser.com/2023/10/19/scope-for-travelcard-compromise/ A really interesting analysis here with some additional context on how the apportionment works. Full text above, but highlighting the pertinent paragraph: So I think we we can see why TfL are a bit miffed about this!

    PDF tickets - screenshots acceptable?

They absolutely are not! PDF rendering is infamous for being buggy and unreliable. They are not "locked in" at all. Did you know you can embed JavaScript in PDFs? PDFs will vary depending on which rendering engine you use, system fonts, embedded fonts, available options, extensions etc. That...

    PDF tickets - screenshots acceptable?

Not necessarily! It's a user controlled device running 3rd party software. The difference being that the railway is providing the ticket data to be rendered by a user controlled device, whereas a paper ticket is provided for use "as is" from a device owned by the railway. Note that there is an...

    PDF tickets - screenshots acceptable?

For sure - and I think we're agreed on that.

    PDF tickets - screenshots acceptable?

Should passengers be expected to know that? Should they be penalised on the basis of a staff member not being equipped to interrogate a machine readable code? Is it stated exactly what constitutes a "valid" and "invalid" eTicket, such that it's clear human readable information is required to be...

    PDF tickets - screenshots acceptable?

Would it? In my opinion, the condition is very vague - I would have thought this was only intended to apply to photocard linked tickets, travel warrants and the like (cited in the non-exhaustive list provided). Presumably, if it does apply, then it also applies to all ToD bookings, depending...

    PDF tickets - screenshots acceptable?

Appreciate this is only advice. There doesn't seem to be anything that specifies exactly what part of an eTicket must be readable for it to be valid. Since it can be rendered in a multitude of different ways, the exact form and presence of 'human readable data' might actually be quite difficult...

Switch to 25 kV AC in Czech Republic and France.

Quite a few stanchions had been replaced seemingly quite recently when I travelled along there. I was surprised that a single track jointed line was electrified at all, to be honest! It doesn't really make sense unless you extend it all the way to Clermont-Ferrand or have duel-voltage trains...

TfL proposes to withdraw Day Travelcards

From a resiliency perspective, I'm not sure that kind of centralisation would be desirable. There is a general trend, in my experience, to offloading processing to geographically proximate and independent edge locations to help with scaling and redundancy. But I fear we're going off topic :)

TfL proposes to withdraw Day Travelcards

That's not how RSP eTickets work. There's enough data to validate the ticket offline encoded in the optical code. The scan data is what's stored in the backoffice (alongside other metadata), which doesn't necessarily need to be done immediately.

Confused about claiming a refund due to cancelled train

Yes, if the ticket is unused you should claim a refund from the retailer. I suspect that's because you indicated that you had experienced a delay or cancelled train. Whereas what has actually happened is you've "abandoned" that portion of the journey with an unused ticket and are therefore...

Delay Repay should be provided by retailers

As I stated, the line between "refund" and "compensation" is often unclear and muddy for passengers, who just want their money back after being inconvenienced. That one comes from the retailer and the other from a TOC (which one, you have to work out) is an unnecessary barrier for passengers.
