Avanti platform staff bawling at passengers

Oh for goodness sake. You really need to find a different argument. It's hardly sanctimonious. Just as physics isn't inside information to railway staff. People don't need educating about what a moving train does if it comes into contact with a human body, it's very easy to work out for...

Avanti platform staff bawling at passengers

Balderdash. There are countless PA's, announcements, posters and, if you're so inclined, information online about what the yellow line exists for, but beyond that how people think standing close to where 500 tonnes of shifting metal could be, be it moving at 5mph or 125mph, is beyond me. As a...

Avanti platform staff bawling at passengers

But it is the issue because if they stood behind the line they wouldn't get shouted at. How does one dispatcher make themselves heard from one end of the platform to the other if they don't have a PA system without shouting? I'm sorry but customer service isn't their primary concern, customer...

Avanti platform staff bawling at passengers

Except 3D scanners are the exception not the norm. I've never noticed a lack of signage. At Heathrow you'd be hard pressed to miss the repack area with gazillions of plastic bags and plenty of signage... Yet many do. Brain get checked in with bags As for LU Vs Network rail infrastructure yes...

Best/worst mess facilities across the network

Tbh I find it's the "contents" of the mess room that dictates whether I spend my PNB there or go looking for a sunny spot to enjoy my sandwich. Thankfully my shift are a decent bunch but it only takes a visitor from down the line to sour the mood

Stress of train driving and work/life balance

Shift work can be quite an adjustment and train crew shifts are certainly at the extreme on the railway at least. I've worked them for decades now, some far less sociable than driving, but you never really become fully used to them, the human body just doesn't work that way, instead you try to...

Avanti platform staff bawling at passengers

Personally I think this is symptomatic of a society that is bizarrely unwilling to challenge the establishment but constantly enjoys displaying acts of micro aggression in other settings. Aviation is the same; "could you put your bag in the overhead locker sir as you're sat in an emergency exit...

    EPA - End Point Assessment

It's quite unlikely you being able to change TOCs will precede your EPA. It should happen fairly swiftly after your part C within weeks or at most a month or two. Given the length of time railway recruitment takes (even for qualified drivers), the notice you will have to give and the few TOCs...

    EPA - End Point Assessment

It should have no bearing on your continued employment. Certainly doesn't at the TOC I'm at or ones nearby where I have friends. It'll involve some short fairly easy quizzes about rules and safety and professional discussions about the role. If you've passed out, you'll find this a doddle tbh...

    Assessments & Medicals discussion

If you have an a BP machine at home it's worth doing a week's worth of readings morning and evening and taking it along to your medical. This can help to quickly see whether you have hypertension or white coat syndrome and the medical staff often appreciate it.

Which TOCs have separate depot drivers?

Thameslink defo do at Bedford (Cauldwell), Hornsey and Three Bridges not sure if there are others.

    Trainee driver ‘training contracts’

Not entirely true. Most of the linked integrated training schemes that result in a job with a specific airline have a two strike rule as the airline lacks confidence at that point. Beyond that, with the new MPL scheme, this leaves trainees with a fairly useless (and expensive) qualification if...

Lumo overspeed incident at Peterborough (17/04/2022)

It is very LNER language lol. I'm guessing it's just an easily understood terms for a size of bag most people would be familiar with. Unless they think the DVT/bike storage on azuma is a hold now.

    Waiting list....

TPE are recruiting at York for trainees at the moment. As all others will say... Keep applying everywhere. With psychometric passes already in hand it is an easier process too.

Question about emails and OPC records.

Yeah as stated it's logged against your NI number. OPC doesn't directly administer the psychometrics for every TOC anyway. In fact I believe they only do so for a minority of them. So in each instance the TOC would access the central records using your NI number. If it was email it would be...

Yeah that made me depressingly aware of my age .

    Avanti - Qualified Drivers - Liverpool & Wolves (28/07/23)

I wasn't aware of that. Interesting. As you say it would put me off Avanti (WCP) if the vast part of my day was spent in a supervisory role. It tends to make the day go quickly when you're switched on and driving. I was considering Avanti recently but withdrew before taking a rules exam spot...

    Avanti - Qualified Drivers - Liverpool & Wolves (28/07/23)

ETCS doesn't necessarily imply ATO... You still drive the train in ETCS but with a supervisory safety system comparable to ATP and movement authorities instead of signals. I don't believe there are any high speed stock in the UK equipped to run ATO as it stands? Plus it doesn't work in LRA hence...

    Apprenticeship Train Driver

Well I was not required to do English or Maths as I had GCSE's in both. (I studied math into Uni tbh but the system only cares about L2 quals) but ICT required a 2 day functional skills course even though I was testing beyond level 3 (ICT wasn't really a main subject in my day however I grew up...
