    TfW 197 annoucements

IMHO, there is never a valid reason for Welsh first, other than an ideological one.

    Newport island platform

They had actually finished with all the electrification work by 2019. This current work is to replace the glass panels in the canopy. Lord knows when they'll finish though...

    Bristol rail improvements

Except for all the 800/802s that turn up on Taunton/Penzance services. A lot of the 2Uxx services from Bristol TM to Cardiff and 2Cxx in the other direction are also 800/802 operated and therefore could be entirely electric.

    Ebbw Vale line improvements

    Hallelujah! Only 16 years late!

CAF Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Looks like 1W57 has failed at Moorland Road junction just out of CDF. It has been sat there since 11:03 with a 1Z99 now behind it. Rescued by 1:30pm.

    Ebbw Vale line improvements

As predicted the Ebbw <-> Newport services for the week of the 22nd have all vanished from the timetable. Has there ever been a worse operator in the history of the railway than TfW?

    Ebbw Vale line improvements

Yes, but that is achieved using the current amount of rolling stock. The additional services promised (and in the timetable) are still entirely absent.

    Ebbw Vale line improvements

That's just because they haven't got around to cancelling them in the system yet. It has been a rolling two-week's ahead since December 11th!

    Ebbw Vale line improvements

Yes, as part of the December 11th timetable change. The Newport services will slot in eventually.

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 FLIRTs

Shame they didn't keep 92015 on it! :)

    New Rail line near Newport

There are various sidings, such as Pengam, the Up/down good siding at Ebbw Junction and Up branch down at East Usk that are electrified too, but how many 387s can they hold?

Former station names still in use today

*sigh* Here's hoping if these new stations in the Newport area come about that Newport High Street is re-adopted as the official name. 1699297896 Only by people trying to push a certain agenda that we won't go into here...

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 FLIRTs

They could certainly do it one-way on batteries, because STJ to Cheltenham is shorter than Newport to Wootton Bassett. The round trip would be too long though, unless they can recharge at Cheltenham.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

People in those areas, without a train service, don't use the trains. Great argument! The crappy local service from Rogerstone and Pye Corner goes the wrong way, and you are suggesting that yet another station has a service that goes the wrong way. That is not a useful local rail service that...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

That's essentially what the current Cheltenham service is, but with better onward connections. There are no connections at Chepstow (other than occasional XC trains to Cheltenham!), so it would be an odd place to terminate.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

That messes up local services in Newport. People in Maesglas/Duffryn would then not be able to catch services to Newport High Street/Somerton/Llanwern and vice versa.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

This plan only adds two additional stops, not six. It's add odd service with a mix of frequent-stopping branch and non-stop mainline. It probably shouldn't run on the mains anyway if it's a local Class 2 stopping service.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

There are crossovers between the end of the proposed Newport West site and Ebbw Junction from the relief to the mains, so just run the Ebbws on the newly improved relief lines.
  19. oglord

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Yes, and this differs from the previous madcap plan of flipping the main relief lines over and getting rid of the P1 loop and merging it with the DR through Newport High Street. This is a much better proposal all round.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I know, it's never as simple as the politicians claim it is, but the whole purpose of the Burns Commission is to create a load of public transport alternatives to the M4RR. In theory it should all be funded somehow, otherwise what's the point?
