Stockport to Foxton Sundays dep 1922 query

I'm looking to book this train on a Sunday in December. I see that I arrive in Foxton 2324 doubling back from Cambridge. I realise that my ticket will say Stockport to Foxton. I know that FCC revenue staff are very strict on tickets and look to prosecute. Am I going to have problems doubling...

Broken windscreen on KGX to Newcastle

Just seen the windscreen of the EC train that has caused the line south of Stevenage to close a short while. It has lots of cracks coming from a central area where you can imagine something substantial has hit it. Train pulled in very slowly to Stevenage and will be going nowhere for a while...

Split ticket 0838 SHF - ELY

Yesterday I bought a Sheffield to Ely for the now heavily delayed 0838 but had it split at Nottingham to save some money. The tickets are Advance purchase for booked train only but now I have found out that the train will terminate at Nottingham and a new train will do Nott to Ely departing on...

    stone hut at Grindleford.

I have recently noticed a small stone building built into the banking between Grindleford platforms and the tunnel entrance. It has a wooden gate as a door. What was/is this used for?

Best/worst cup of tea on rail network

I've had tea at many stations/on trains and I had my very worst the other day. I specified white tea from the vending machine on platform 2 at Sheffield. All I will say is I can still taste it. Can anybody recommend tea I should avoid while on rail network - and where to find the best?

    Stevenage platform waiting rooms

I was at Stevenage today waiting for a connection. While having a light snooze in the not-so-comfortable waiting room a passing EC train caused the doors of the room to bang violently against the frames. They did this for every passing fast train. Have sliding doors never been considered given...

Dore - April Sundays after Easter

Seen a poster that says EMT Nottingham-Liverpool trains during the Dore engineering works will be bypassing Sheffield. I presume they will be joining the hope valley at the Dore curve. Anyone know how much time is saved by missing Sheffield?

    Doncaster Stevenage - Sunday 1945.

Scratching my head on this one. I like to get the 1945 Doncaster to Stevenage on Sundays - it reduces my overall journey time by 1 hour. Some Sundays it runs, others not. Yesterday it was not listed on the live departure boards but was listed clearly on the printed timetable near the platform -...

    Foxton North bound platform

The wicket gates at Foxton are out of order and chained up with a notice saying to find an alternative route. So how is one supposed to now get to the Cambridge bound platform? Are we expected to walk on to the busy A10 and nip through the level crossing?

    Buxton-Matlock Rail and Trail Inquiry

To coincide with the citizens enquiry next week in Buxton, I thought it may be a good idea to hear your views on the key questions that are being addressed: 1. Is re-opening the railway feasible? 2. Could it be economically viable? 3. What has changed since the last studies concluded? 4...

Chinley to gain stopping services, but lose fast services

<This post has been changed to make it more comprehensible> There are plans being put through to axe 2 peak time services from Manchester to Chinley. Apparently it is a result of traffic problems (freight) through the Dore junction and increased number of passenger services to be introduced...

Landslip on Sheffield to Manchester route

Just found out my train and all other northern trains are cancelled along the hope valley. Apparently there has been a landslip at Chinley. Anyone know if this has happened at the same place as 2 years ago when a whole banking was replaced and reinforced? What is worrying is that more heavy...
