London to Glasgow via train or plane. Which is faster.

I don't expect doing work is going to be a huge consideration to those who are turning to trains; it's unlikely to be those with time pressures and instead tourists/students who can travel up in the middle of the day to get the cheap fares and deal with a 4h+ transit time. If going to Edinburgh...

London to Glasgow via train or plane. Which is faster.

the plane is quicker as no-one adheres to minimum airport arrival times on domestic flights and its also quite a bit cheaper unless you're lucky enough to snag one of the handful of cheap advance train tickets. and those that you can find are at inconvenient times that would usually require an...

Wonderfully offensive article in the Torygraph

Put it this way, if im asked in my job what is going with something i'd better have an answer, even though factors from all around the world come into play. The systems are in place to let me know the information i need to know - so the 'how are we supposed to know' excuse doesn't wash. It can...

Wonderfully offensive article in the Torygraph

That final part is the point im getting at. You should not have to say 'i dont know'. The management should have in place a system so that everyone in the slightest way involved knows exactly what is going on at all times. That they dont is their own failing, but as the front line railway staff...

Wonderfully offensive article in the Torygraph

The problem is clearly communication. The signaller should know, and should be able to tell you. And that failure is down to management, which everyone knows is god awful in Network Rail etc. But, unfortunately for the front line staff...if i've paid good money for a service and aren't getting...

Wonderfully offensive article in the Torygraph

Last week all departures were showing as cancelled or delayed and trains were leaving in some cases hours behind schedule. When someone asks you 'im booked on the 1800 service that is cancelled, what trains can i catch to my destination?' - 'look at the departure board' followed by looking away...

Wonderfully offensive article in the Torygraph

In the real world you tell people as much as you know. In my job for instance i have to draw on experience and give an estimate even if i dont have a clue. 'i dont know' would never be good enough. Other countries can manage to communicate with their passengers with the same problems we have...

Wonderfully offensive article in the Torygraph

NASA, for one. Their satellites have been seeing cooling in the area between the surface and about 5-10 miles up since they were first launched in the 70s, whilst surface measurements have been going slightly up. Google the TIROS satellites if you want to see for yourself.

Wonderfully offensive article in the Torygraph

tory toff or not, he holds the same view as the majority of the paying public. every time the railways collapse around us the staff seem to be issued with the standard response of 'i dont know. look at the departure boards' etc. it may be the backroom staff doing this, but if you're the one...

this one?? http://traintimes.org.uk/map/ i dont see how they could have a leg to stand on if they complain about someone pulling published live running times from their website

Virgin Advance ticket restrictions during snow

there or there abouts. i posted that at 1923 from the train's wifi so it probably took 5 or so minutes to clear the tunnels and get signal out of euston. i was going to stoke so the 1840 was no use to me. 1820 was pretty empty actually as the manchester crowd all got on the delayed 1840. was a...

Overhead power pickup flashing in snow/ice???

Am currently sat on a Pendolino going North around the Stafford area where there has been quite a bit of snow and in the dark i can see from the window flashing to the point of almost being a constant light coming from the overhead pick up. Anyone any ideas what would cause this??

Virgin Advance ticket restrictions during snow

Thanks all. Official line is 1 hour either side of your advertised service....but given the shambles at Euston this evening i dont see how this will be enforceable. I'm on the 1820 and just left Euston....at 1922.

Virgin Advance ticket restrictions during snow

I'm on the 1900 train out of Euston this evening with an Advance 1st - all on the hour trains have now been cancelled. Have Virgin issued easements to allow passengers with Advance tickets to travel on earlier trains? I'm planning to get to the station earlier to try and avoid the 1920, which...
