Leicestershire train driver who ran red signal found five times over alcohol limit

Endeavour Square is shared with Thales. The licences are in TfL's name as they're the leaseholder of the building. What isn't mentioned is that alcohol is only served at specific functions after a certain time (though the licence permits a wider window than is practically used) - you can't just...

    Ickenham overrun/SPAD, 12th March 2022

There's very little potential in such a circumstance. The normal design process is to calculate the full speed overlap of a starting signal, and if there is no credible collision risk within that calculated overlap (i.e. no berth or confliction within it) then a short overlap for 35km/h may be...

    Southern Automatic Signalling

The point equipment wasn't replaced at resignalling - still air operated.

Freedom pass evasion - letter sent, due to go Magistrate next. Anyone done this?

Yes they do. Touching the card on the reader at a ticket machine will give you the last ten journeys and TfL have access to the full journey history for that card.

Well, yes, that is an option - but might have unforseen consequences should he ever wish to return to the UK.

First time logging in here for many years, but I couldn't help make a few observations on this: 1. The letter includes a Police and Criminal Evidence Act caution. There's only one way this is heading and that's prosecution. 2. In response to Snow1964's comment in post #28, the investigation is...

    Tube passengers trapped for hours

Not any more, and it hasn't been like that for a good seven years or so. The reason the trains were detained so long was that after current was taken off around the normal time, a member of staff started to work on the track nearby and couldn't be contacted for his 'Special Line Clear...

    Someone has blundered

Each controlled site has two backup methods of controlling the signalling: The ELCP (Emergency Local Control Panel) which can be operated by a member of Operating Staff, or the Maintainers panel/terminal, which can only be operated by the maintainer. However each takes time to put in (and...

[bit of humor) 1995 SPAD in-cab sticker

The wording is something along the lines of "After passing a signal at danger expect to find a train ahead". I think there used to be a bit in there saying 'under rule' but can't remember. They were installed at the RI's request after a collision when the second train applied the rule past a...

London rail chief wants to end Alstom contract

This would be the same Victoria line which even today only has three trainstops (all fixed) on the entire line? (For those who really care they are leaving Northumberland Pk Depot and South of Finsbury Park.

London rail chief wants to end Alstom contract

There's one small problem. Alsthom built the trains under a PFI contract. More than that, the contract was for (AFAIK) design, build and maintain for a period of time then the trains would become LU's property (now Tube Lines). If the contract is terminated prematurely, then surely the trains...

Meeting due over Tube safety row - Northern Line

Exactly - nothing seems to go wrong as frequently. Don't judge a book by it's cover. While Tubelines doesn't appear to do as much track replacement work, when they do they normally replace far more than on a Metronet possession. As for the people who are no longer employed in my team, all but...

Meeting due over Tube safety row - Northern Line

The team I'm in had nineteen engineers when I joined it less than six months ago; we now have eight. That is not a situation I would describe as being under control.

Meeting due over Tube safety row - Northern Line

I did do a dead late for the northern line double manning a few weeks ago, so I've got a rough idea what's going on. The fixed trainstops have two purposes, firstly to prove the tripcock does work at least once per trip and secondly that if it doesn't get tripped we know about it before entering...

Meeting due over Tube safety row - Northern Line

I think it's best the record is put straight on this subject. The issue appears to be that the trains are either failing to become tripped or the tripcocks are resetting themselves. There is no question relating to the integrity of the trainstops or any other part of the signalling system.

    OHLE 25kV or 750V DC third-rail

But as 92's are dual voltage, your argument falls down immediately.

    Favourite Tram System? [UK]

Just a little biased then ;) I personally think that Midland Metro has opened up travel links to Central Birmingham that some areas had lacked for a number of years and were quite deprived without. West Bromwich, for example was in dire need of a faster route to Birmingham than the 79...

    Attn all school leavers

Not what I thought it was then. Strap man to me is someone who applies test straps. I have to admit, having done nights for six months I'm not overly keen on them. I'd rather earn less money as a designer than as a Night AET (which a friend of mine is doing) but keep regular hours and be able...

    Attn all school leavers

Well I haven't got any of those and I don't think I'm fairly badly off... Four years at College paid for by Metronet and now £27k/year for monday to friday 9-5. A friend of mine didn't even get his HNC and now takes £43k. What we both have is a certificate saying Tech 2 (S) and he has an IRSE...

    92 stock ATO

I was under the impression that the 85kph mod was one implemented to the ATO controllers directly and not via the PAC. Certainly the PACs I modified a month or so ago had been last modified pre-Chancery Lane. I think I'll have a chat with the ATC Team at Ruislip next week...
