RMT reporting that Merseyrail have suspended off peak ticket sales from Liverpool Central/Moorfields - Aintree for Grand National weekend.

no doubt the DFT will be getting the extra revenue. gone are the days of cheap advances and regular sales on the railway to fill trains, these days its all about cash. the sooner we have a more public transport focussed Government the better..

Charged Excess Fare Crewe-Euston by West Midlands Trains (LNR route)

I use these tickets between Euston and Derby, and I think a few years ago, the restriction was 1630-1930 but at some point it moved to 1600- 1900

Paddington to St. Ives on the Night Riviera - Friday 12 April

book to Penzance, and either have a complementary shower in the arrivals lounge at Penzance, and take the 0840 direct to St Ives from Penzance (arr 0900), or get off at St Erth and take the connection arriving at 0800. the fares on the branch are cheap (£3 or £4 all day rover), the train is...

Was looking forward to Pullman dining on the 1816 from Plymouth today, on a journey back from Cornwall. Pullman cancelled at last minute, poor showing from GWR.

    East Midlands Railway first class

I gave up with EMR St pancras services some time ago, and take the LNWR from Euston and change at Tamworth. Eight car electric trains, permanently declassified first class carriages and fares around half the price... Slightly longer journey though, and connections can be tight...

    Caledonian Sleeper

on our Friday departure from Euston to Fort William, we were advised we couldn't go to the lounge club car until half an hour after departure, as we were in standard cabins and not club, surprised as I have never had an issue before either.. The storms caused a lot of disruption for the return...

First Group Sheffield - London via Retford open access proposal

Brilliant news! EMR really needs some competition, as journey times apart, the St Pancras service, is an expensive, overcrowded shambles... look forward to a trip over Whisker hill junction next year if this goes ahead... https://www.signalboxes.com/whisker-hill-junction.php

    ORR Origin-Destination Matrix 2021-22

wow, so that's about a quarter of a million avoiding East Midlands Trains and their worn out, often overcrowded 5 car Meridians. judging by the fares from Euston (around 50% cheaper) i find that hardly surprising!

What could be done to make the Whitby line better?

interesting that Northern are running trial 'limited stop' services between Darlington/ Middlesborough/ Whitby on New Years Day 2024, perhaps some limited stop service is what the line needs.. 2E01 - 0953 Middlesbrough to Whitby 1114 2E02 - 1125 Whitby to Darlington 1310 2E03 - 1422 Darlington...

Glasgow Airport rail + bus tickets

Yes your right, it does trundle about a bit, but takes less than 15 mins, and with a non stop train from glasgow central taking 9 minutes, it's not a bad route really,. especially if you've got rail staff facilities..

Glasgow Airport rail + bus tickets

I've done the McGill's 757 many times this year. It's just over two quid with a contactless card and leaves right outside paisley station.. there is a real time timer so you know exactly when the bus is coming..

    Costa Del Sol Cercanias

Hardly infrequent, they already run Malaga Centro-Airport-Torremolinos-Fuengirolia every 20 minutes for most of the day... https://www.renfe.com/es/es/cercanias/cercanias-malaga/horarios

Has anyone here ever braved the N9 to the Airport?

The Piccadilly line starts running before 5am from Osterley, and there is a tube from there at 0455 arriving T5 at 0515, perhaps a taxi to Osterley would be an option and avoids the £5 drop off

    LNW Trent Valley services

I can get from Euston to Derby in 1 hr 50 for around half the price of EMR and the southbound connection via Tamworth is the same 1hr 50 since the timetable change. The fact most EMR services are 5 car crowded units is also something to avoid..
