    Perth to Liverpool via Settle

Looking back at The Puddock’s original query - are there not also “any permitted” tickets from Perth to Liverpool, in addition to ones routed “via Lancaster”? https://www.brfares.com/!fares?orig=PTH&dest=LIV&period=20240401 So maybe the split at Hellifield isn’t necessary after all?

    Perth to Liverpool via Settle

I believe that Hooton to Hellifield is valid via Liverpool, Manchester, Bolton and Clitheroe (maps NO+MH or NR+MH).

E-Tickets on dead phones - a possible solution?

Mostly true, but old phone batteries can be very temperature dependant. The geriatric iPad Mini that I am writing this on works just fine in summer and in a heated room, but take it outdoors on a cold day and it will, regardless of the state of charge, just shut down and refuse to come back to...

How could heritage railways encourage more visitors to arrive by public transport?

https://www.transdevbus.co.uk/coastliner/greetingsfromyorkshire says it is 10% off. But this says it is 20% off https://www.transdevbus.co.uk/keighley/keighley-worth-valley-railway-0

How could heritage railways encourage more visitors to arrive by public transport?

Not sure what the commercial arrangement is between the KWVR and Transdev buses, but have you looked into also extending the 20% discount to passengers who present a train ticket to Keighley? Wouldn’t that also mostly solve problems that you have listed?

    Northern Delay Repay delays

UPDATE, and I am furious with Northern. Here is a summary of our numerous recent email exchanges: ME - "And what about the other Delay Repay claim that did not use a multi-modal ticket? This complaint was about TWO separate claims, and I have heard NOTHING from Northern about either of them...

How could heritage railways encourage more visitors to arrive by public transport?

Certainly a ticket that I make frequent use of, genuinely using the Ratty as public transport for visiting Eskdale, which has no bus service. It is the reason that the railway was built in the first place. Long may it continue! Unfortunately the through ticket seems to be less well publicised...

    Northern Delay Repay delays

I had a spare few minutes at work, so complained online to Northern about my two missing claims. The complaint was all all-in-one, clearly stating that the first missing claim was for a delay between Todmorden and Bradford using a West Yorkshire Bus & Train Day Saver, and that the second was for...

June 2024 reopening of the line between Clitheroe and Hellifield for passenger trains

Advances would prohibit break of journey e.g. stopping off in Settle or Clitheroe on the way home for a pint or fish & chips.

Settle junction up signals - info please

Off topic, but I once encountered a “senior” motorist stopped on the A65 by signal SJ11 showing a red aspect, thinking that it was a traffic light.

    Northern Delay Repay delays

Silly me. Expecting to be able to use the Delay Repay forms that Northern distribute at their stations, to claim for delays when travelling on their trains. I just don’t know what I was thinking... Seriously though, so it is not just me then. I will give it another couple of weeks and if I...

    Northern Delay Repay delays

In late November and early December last year I submitted two separate Delay Repay claims to Northern, using their paper claim forms sent to the Freepost Northern Railway address. I have still heard nothing back about either claim. Even allowing for the Christmas and New Year breaks, I was think...

Ticket validity if second leg of journey has stopped for the evening

And if it was the outward portion of a period return ticket? For an off-peak ticket, the ticket could be be used to complete the journey on day 2. But paradoxically for a more expensive peak “anytime short return” ticket, the journey could not be completed on day 2, as the outward portion only...

'Via ...' tickets and additional permitted routes

I was going to say the double-back is probably allowed (I’m still scratching my head over that), and if it is then yes, the double back is optional! There must be some “+Any Permitted” tickets where the Routeing Guide lists “LONDON” as one of the the map combinations to be used, that involve a...

'Via ...' tickets and additional permitted routes

Here are two parts to the question “do you need to consider doublebacks when merging the two routes together?” First - is the double-back allowed? Second - is the double-back optional?

Trivia: Where can you still buy a single for less than £2?

I felt ripped off by the fare from Airedale Hospital to Steeton Station on the Jackson’s 903 being a whopping £1.50 the short distance, whereas £1 would have got me all the way to Keighley bus station on Transdev’s 66 or M4 services.

Northern strike day and my Grand Central Doncaster to Bradford train is now cancelled.

LNER were running to Harrogate, and Grand Central were running to Bradford Interchange though. Both stations having no other services due to the Northern strike. Anyway, all of the collective head scratching over permitted routes between Sheffield and Steeton was academic. At no point in my...

Northern strike day and my Grand Central Doncaster to Bradford train is now cancelled.

Northern strike day and my Grand Central Doncaster to Bradford train is now cancelled.

Possibly, depending on how much time I have between my bus arriving and train departing. As Grand Central have a buy-onboard policy, and I believe that you are entitled to but change-of-route excess fares on-board in any case, I was thinking that I would prefer to buy the excess fare on the...
