SWT staff member in potential bother

I agree it was unprofessional and stupid to announce, however the comment from the commuter show's the place we've come to where everybody exercises their right to be offended.

Ukip Want Employers to be able to discriminate in favour of British workers

I agree with your sentiment however I am increasingly stunned by the volume of people from this generation who feel that they have reached an age where responsibility and accountability are no longer necessary. Let's not forget that generation is living in the wake of some of the decisions and...

Trivia: Stations that don't use the correct name of the place.

Fought on Senlac Hill though the town Battle was so called after the abbey it grew around much later on. Continuing with my home turf, the recently afamed Stonegate station on the same line actually serves Ticehurst parish, being between Stonegate and Withenden. I believe it was originally...

Are you happy in your job as an RPI?

When I was a lad there were two RPIs regularly knocking about (who shall remain nameless) who were incredibly pleasant. The chap was probably somebody you wouldn't want to cross and the lady a former guard until experiencing back problems. She is probably retired now but their 'round' included...

    smacking

Poor parenting accounts for some bad behaviour. Agreed nobody writes the book and most have rarely enjoyed perfect parenting but it has to be said that lack of authority, love and safety account for poor behaviour. This generation seems to ignore the fact that it has liberalised education and...

There is also a similarly-designed Class 67 in operation in Spain.

Things that annoy you on bus and coach journeys

Frustrated F1 drivers who have clearly been hired on the basis of their ability to interpret a braille copy of the Highway Code.

Why do you use the train?

In the main its the most convenient way to get from Newcastle to London. However in recent times it has been so much hassle that I've taken to the coach overnight to free up some day-time.

Do preserved lines actually want articles written about them or not???

I have to add that I visited a preserved railway in the UK in December and was surprised to see the state the buildings were in. Lots of poor repairs to what were once beautiful station buildings. Do any of the larger preserved railways have their own estates managers?

Consequences of drinking wine or beer on a 'dry train'

If it was a pleasant experience I would relay the details. They save love is blind...........must be deaf and dumb too judging by that train

    Ashford-Hastings Investment

This is good news for the line, however it will push property prices in Hastings and Bexhill, altering my chances of moving back to the area in a few years time. I wonder if this will wake up the Wealden Line campaigner and bring their soapbox to the forefront?

End of an era on the East Coastway line (update: this is now happening in 2015)

That's interesting stat. The odeon cinema in Pilgrim Street was listed on the basis of the fixtures and fittings, however when they were stripped out by a developer the building lost its listing status. I wonder if there is any danger of the same happening with these signalboxes? What further...

End of an era on the East Coastway line (update: this is now happening in 2015)

I was saddened to read this, and clearly a bit late on the uptake. Spent many happy days as a kid in Pevensey & Westham, Berwick and Plumpton gate box. Eastbourne is likely to be listed on the grounds that a significant proportion of original equipment has been retained (levers and block...

If you could travel back in time, what service would you like to travel on?

The Brighton Belle in the 1960s would have been a treat. Post rationing and the era of Poulson!

Consequences of drinking wine or beer on a 'dry train'

If you have ever made the mistake of catching the last train from York to the North East you'll understand why. It is atrocious on board, not to mention the misery of being chatted up by endless lines of inhebriated hen-nighters.

    General bathroom cleaning tip help

If you get no luck, pump the water out and let a couple of bottles of cheap cola sit in there for a while. TESCO used to do a rather poor bottle at 15p a few years ago. This ought to eat away enough for a good scrub.

    Nuisance Tweeters

Presumably, it would be considered unwise to remind the aforementioned 'tweeter' that the operator is a private company and that (s)he is more than welcome to stop using the services if they are so poor.
