    London Calling 27/3

As I commented on another thread, for once I was out and about on the National Rail network yesterday. The reason for this was that I was getting my sister and nieces down to, and across London, as my sister is not very confident about using the underground at the best of times, let alone when...

What season are we in currently?

Summer or Winter? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-23372330 If you open a shop, then you are trying to take commercial advantage of something, in this case, Christmas. I believe the dean needs to use the confessional booth and say quite a few Hail Mary's for telling a rather...

Sunday part of the working week?

Note - Rather than reply to this in the LM Cancelations thread and drag it off topic, I've decided it would be better to start a new topic. I don't know where to start .... What is special about Sundays? Why to people who work on the railway think they deserve every Sunday off? Just about...

1 for all the parents out there ....

Twas the night before school started when all through the town, teachers were groaning, it was a disturbing sound. By 10 they were washed and tucked up in bed, where memories of children filled them with dread. New pencils, new folders, new registers too. New classes, new grey hairs, their...

Boris Johnson - More big building projects needed

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-19270322 Erm, correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't there been an awful lot of work in the past few years in London? Olympic Stadium, HS1, half of Stratford basically rebuilt from the ground up, Crossrail, plus numerous other projects, and he wants...

    EMT bailout

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-18893265 I don't want to turn this into a union bashing thread, as I've stated before I am in favour of them, but .... Is the RMT mentioned in the report the same union that ballots EMT staff for strike action if there is a pay offer of less than 5%? Is...

    Sport on the BBC

This is a followup to the thread "Too much sport on the BBC", which I think has been deleted. Anyway, the BBC have today released their annual report, and in reading about it, I spotted something interesting .... That's right, in the last year, there has been 389 hours less sport shown...

Bob Crow - Rolling stock is "clapped out"

Yes, a misleading title, but I think it's something worth discussing. http://www.rmt.org.uk/Templates/Internal.asp?NodeID=160520 Now, forgive my ignorence, but what unreliable and unsafe rolling stock have we got tucked away in sidings and sheds? I know of the 507s (or is it 508s?) at...

    More ECML woes

Newcastle station has just been closed due to flooding in the city center, as well as problems around Grantham, which I presume is due to flooding.

    Graphics card advice

Well, my old gfx card has just given up the ghost after very nearly 4 years hard use. Anyway, I'm now looking for a new 1. I've seen this 1, but can anyone recommend anything different/better? (for reference, my budget is about £45 at the most, so no use suggesting something very pricey.)

    Adult on child ticket.

From the "Public Misconceptions" topic I don't know if it's happening at any other stations, but TPE have put up notices at Scunthorpe station which state that it is an offence to knowingly buy a child ticket if you are aged 16 or over, or buy a child ticket for someone who you know is 16 or...

    URL shorteners ....

I've just made a post that included a link to streetmap.co.uk. Instead of posting the huge URL I used an URL shortening service. However .... Tiny URL, Bit ly, is gd and a couple of others are all censored, with the links showing as http://*******.com. Any particular reason?
