    London Road crossing, Bicester

Not sure if this is likely to be raised tomorrow in parliament at the committee hearing I linked, but possibly (the cost of the various solutions must be in scope at least!), so adding a link to this thread.

East West Rail project [to be] examined by Transport Committee [on March 6th 2024 from 09:30]

https://committees.parliament.uk/event/20663 There's a link to watch online, and instructions on how to attend in person, on that web page.

technology, phone batteries and e-tickets discussion.

Pretty easy in my (iPhone) experience, just book an appointment and they'll change it for between £65 and £95, depending on model. Took about half an hour the last time I did it. And the second part of your statement isn't true (there have been bugs causing battery drain which came with some...

East-West Rail (EWR): will it happen and how should it be done?

It is for me, and I'm sure I'm not the only one! :)

East-West Rail (EWR): will it happen and how should it be done?

As somebody that uses the road system between Bedford and Cambridge several times a week, I assure you, it would (will). They won't drive all the way into the city centre (of course), but they will drive either to one of the Park & Rides, or to one or other non-central location, depending on...

East-West Rail (EWR): will it happen and how should it be done?

The following two statements seem contradictory: It either is, or isn't, important to provide ways for "the Cambridge workforce" to get from wherever they live (west of Cambridge, in this context) into Cambridge to work. If it is, then both EWR Bedford-Cambridge and the Black Cat -> Caxton...

    Low floor Aventra

(regarding class 701 Aventra still not entering service) It looks as if nothing is wrong with the trains, at least I couldn't find anything with some very quick searching. 47 have been accepted by SWR. RMT is refusing to allow them into service (or even training to take place)...

Should Didcot to Oxford be electrified to release Turbos for work elsewhere?

Hmm, I'm not sure about that (can't remember), but, as an aside, it's about to get more frequent (amongst other improvements, such as some services calling at High Wycombe, and also some Carterton / Witney / Eynsham services): https://www.oxfordtube.com/OctoberServiceChange.aspx (Long page...

GWR 1st catering now weekdays (& before 7:30pm) only, and not for Paddington Oxford customers

A quick aside on the original topic of this thread: From https://www.gwr.com/travelling-with-us/first-class/food-and-drink : So far so good, though weekends are only "mentioned by omission" but, from https://www.gwr.com/your-tickets/ways-to-save/weekend-upgrades : So, about that last...

More Delay for HS2, and how should we proceed?

... and, arguably even importantly, it means more flights between London and The North; HS2 should be replacing flights from London to Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Aberdeen (and even, at a push, with Bristol superfasts restored (non-stop Bristol <-> Old Oak Common), between Bristol and Edinburgh)...

A depressingly familiar journey through broken Britain

I did a quick search for a snapshot of weekday evening services local to me, and found that by far the majority of them were late. Clearly it should be possible for the maintainers of the recenttraintimes to perform a similar query over all services for a given period (the last six months, say)...

What are your first impressions of the new TGV-M.

Relating to all of the above: https://www.talgo.com/-/deutsche-bahn-confirms-talgo-larger-single-order-history-56-new-talgo-230-trains and https://www.talgo.com/-/talgo-icel-db-begin-testing-germany DB have placed Talgo's largest ever single order for new trains ... not EMUs and not a local...

A depressingly familiar journey through broken Britain

Not sure if it does now, but for a long time (years) it stayed the same. I could even type it here from memory but I'll refrain. This was lucky for me when, on more than one occasion, I forgot to pay for parking until I'd got on the train and left the station ... There seems to be a new system...

East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

Definitely … A large amount of new housing, called Wintringham, seems to be being constructed in exactly the right place for such a not-planned station, to the north-east of St. Neot's centre.

Oxford Corridor Phase 2 & Platform 5 updates

Hmm, it's a bit of a mixture really, the 400 / U1, (the main cross-city route, I think!), will be split: As for the other affected services, the 3B school service will be diverted, and the 4A (and 33 & 63) curtailed to the west of the bridge, … but those only went into the centre anyway rather...

Elizabeth line passenger numbers and effect on other lines

I don't think I've used it once since Crossrail opened! Of course it does depend where one is going … but I've been recently from Paddington to Camden Town, Farringdon, Leicester Square, Westminster, that I can remember off the top of my head, … and in each case, Crossrail was the faster option...

Autumn refresh for GWR Class 165/166 Turbos

Oh look, windows open on a unit that has air cooling fitted. If only there were a way to replace the glass, removing the hopper windows. (Cough, Chiltern). Sigh.

Oxford Corridor Phase 2 & Platform 5 updates

Lots more on this and all sorts of other stuff relating to transport (including the railway, Cowley Branch, etc.) in https://letstalk.oxfordshire.gov.uk/central-oxfordshire-travel-plan (oops, just seen this already posted earlier in the week, apologies @JamesT !

What is the best unofficial name for a railway line?

I still think that my completely original and unpublicised “Paddingpool” line (or at a push of course in particularly wet weather the paddling pool line ;), for the Elizabeth Line, deserves a greater audience, given that it follows a well-worn path … _Padding_ton to Liver_pool_ Street ... cf...
