    18:06 Harrogate - Leeds - Sheffield

I'm curious about the 18:06 service that starts at Harrogate, goes to Leeds then back out to form a Sheffield via Rotherham service https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:W31570/2024-03-25/detailed https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:W32936/2024-03-25/detailed Generally...

LNER to offer free period products on trains

(Article mentions Harrogate trains but that is just because it is a Harrogate news site) https://www.thestrayferret.co.uk/lner-to-offer-free-period-products-on-harrogate-trains/ Very good initiative but (and I'm obviously of the opposite sex so forgive the stupidity!)...why can't they just...

Pontefract Monkhill railway station to gain accessibility upgrade

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cw0z6ye43rwo Basically looks to be a 'copy and paste' job of the recent installation at Castleford, seems a bit odd not to do something with Knottingley at the same time

Another landslip - Knottingley (Pontefract East area)

Another headache for Northern (and to a lesser extent Grand Central) today in that there has been a landslip in the Pontefract East area meaning no rail service at all for Knottingley, the inspections and works seem to have been extended until 'at least the end of Tuesday 12 March' now too...

Armed police incident at Manchester Piccadilly 03/02

Just come across this article https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/i-shaken-up-platform-lined-28569126 Don't think I can recall any similar incidents in recent years involving an armed response like this

Northern guard gives misleading advice to passenger trying to use ‘LNER only’ ticket due to cancelled LNER service

I couldn’t help overhearing a Northern guard on a Harrogate to Leeds service earlier advising a passenger holding a ‘LNER only’ ticket that they needed to ‘be careful’ in future as apparently revenue protection wouldn’t take too kindly to it if they were on board Just one slight issue…the 17:36...

Rail replacement bus to Goole seems to have got slightly diverted…

This has just amused me greatly and I can’t work out if they’ve done it accidentally or not (or if a spell checker has got the better of them!) Any passengers for Goole now need to board the rail replacement bus via Google :D

Will Northern ever be tempted to axe the 'evening peak' restrictions?

I had a somewhat amusing exchange with a Northern guard who inspected my ticket this evening, they glanced at it, started to walk away then backtracked and 'just be careful using an off peak return on this ser...oh wait never mind it is past 18:29 anyway sorry about that!' I did decide to then...

    TPE pricing oddities from Castleford

Moderator note: Split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/castleford-station-improvement-updates.212113/page-3#post-6520732 The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has now authorised into service the newly upgraded Castleford railway station (whatever that means!) On a related note, I decided...

LNER Azuma on board display clocks

I noticed this morning upon boarding the 09:53 Leeds - Harrogate LNER Azuma the on board digital displays (above the carriage doors) were actually showing 09:20 rather than 09:55 so around 35 minutes behind However after the (many) scrolling pieces of information had finished the clock popped...

Are Transpenine Express slowly but surely…improving?!

Today I had to go to Manchester from Leeds and back for work and had a flexible ticket on expenses so decided to put my trust in Transpenine Express for the first time in months Outward suffered a 10 minute or so delay arriving/departing Leeds but arrived in Manchester less than 5 minutes down...

Northern and their love of a Class 150!

I've noticed in recent months on Hallam / Pontefract lines (there are probably a lot more examples of course but I travel on those a lot!) we don't ever seem to get treated to much more than a 2 coach Class 150 which can become quite 'cosy' during the morning and evening peaks! At one point we...

Putting the 'Turbo' in 'Turbostar' today on the Harrogate line (straight run Harrogate to Leeds due to knock on delays)

I was very impressed today by the driver operating the 16:42 York - Leeds via Harrogate service! Essentially it departed York 12 minutes late, by the time it reached Harrogate it was 28 minutes behind and then a decision was made to run it straight through to Leeds as there was another Leeds...

Railway Guardians app - the 'new' 61016?

It seems Northern have starting promoting a new 'Railway Guardians' app via their on board displays, at the moment it seems of a central portal of various information with the option to create a 'guided' text for 61016 (and the ability to 'share' your live journet information with contacts) but...

    Wakefield to Sheffield 03/06

Does anyone know if there will be any trains at all from Wakefield to Sheffield on Saturday 3rd June? (Ideally we need to be at Sheffield arena by around 11-11:30am!) Or alternative modes of travel by bus/coach as we need to then return in the evening too We’ve got tickets to see the brand...

    Harrogate unattended ticket barriers proposal

https://www.thestrayferret.co.uk/harrogate-train-station-set-to-have-unmanned-exit/ I am assuming some sort of CCTV would be installed and monitored by the barrier staff at the 'main' station barriers, but it seems a rather odd cost cutting decision if it turns out to be true! (there is a...

‘Big white box’ scanning tickets at Harrogate this morning

Exiting the ticket barriers at Harrogate this morning and all the usual eTicket scanners were covered up and there was one open barrier surrounded by many staff in Northern branded clothing It then had what I can only describe as a big white box with a scanner embedded in it checking the...
