What routes are valid within 'London Group' with a Basingstoke to London Terminals season ticket

Surely this should already have been worked out, given that the Elizabeth Line was due to open in late 2018? They'd have to have had all the fares and rules in the system in preparation for that date. In fact some PAYG journeys made now will assume you've used the Elizabeth Line, like Abbey Wood...

    Greater Anglia name

I'd guess it would have invited confusion with the East Coast Main Line - itself a little confusing as it's not on the coast until it gets closer to Scotland. Whereas the Anglia, East Anglia, West Anglia etc. franchise regions all combined together form "Greater Anglia" on the Great Eastern line...

    Harwich-Hoek-Rotterdam

I stayed on the Metro from Schiedam to Rotterdam Centraal, changing at Beurs. Didn't take that long, considering it was rush hour as well.

    Hoekse Lijn Metro

I sent a quick tweet to RET myself the other day to see if they would confirm, and they did: "Interrail passes are not valid on the Hoekse Lijn Nash. You can only travel with the OV chip card." https://twitter.com/RETRotterdam/status/1180146305773031424 I will nonetheless eagerly await the...

    Hoekse Lijn Metro

Interrail / Eurail passes are apparently no longer valid on this route, according to Interrail's Twitter team: "...the RET line in this route is unfortunately not included in the Interrail Pass. You can purchase a ticket for the metro at the station in Hoek van Holland."...

    Hoekse Lijn Metro

I’m planning a trip to the Netherlands on the ferry in October. I do hope the September 30th date for the Hoekse Lijn is still on track - not just for the convenience but as a train enthusiast too! While I’m here - are Interrail passes accepted on RET metro services in Rotterdam?

Are any "bring back old lines" campaigns likely to succeed?

You're right of course, I had forgotten about Cromer. I should've said, "northwest of Norwich" or indeed "northwest Norfolk". Some good discussions going on here I see. I'll have to look into the reopenings in Scotland more closely, but as has been said, Transport Scotland is a different beast...

Are any "bring back old lines" campaigns likely to succeed?

Curious as to why the area to the north of Norwich has no rail provision outside of heritage lines, I found several articles, campaign sites and other materials all dedicated to the reopening of some of the former railway lines that were closed either by the Beeching axe or soon after. The Lynn...

Season ticket from New Cross to London STNS

It does become worthwhile if you want the flexibility to (for example) use the Northern Line between London Bridge and St. Pancras when Thameslink isn't cooperating, or to use buses. OP: have you considered going from Deptford instead, where Thameslink trains run directly through to St. Pancras...

CrossCountry demonstrates "astonishing contempt for fare-paying passengers"

Is this debacle partly due to the TOCs’ fear that people will be able to give printed-out copies (or screenshots of tickets in this case) to other people, thus violating their sacred “non-transferable” rule? I don’t know exactly how e-tickets work on the backend but presumably once it’s bern...

Network Rail in line to take control of trains in major overhaul

Would it be cynical to suggest that the government would want to hand responsibility for franchises over to NR in order to give themselves a "buffer" for when the franchises (or the franchise renewal process) attract negative media attention? They can point at NR and say "nothing to do with us...

Cautioned and awaiting letter. I cant see what ive done wrong

Is the return portion of a return ticket considered to be a separate ticket for the purposes of being "non-transferable", or are both portions jointly non-transferable? If it's separate, then who's to say that the plan wasn't always for one person to use the outward portion and the other to use...

Which abandoned station would be most useful today?

Mansion House is only a few hundred metres away, let's throw that one in too! Mansion House-Cannon Street-Bank-Monument-Moorgate-Liverpool Street .... at this rate we may as well start building a new underground city!

Flatmate PFd/fined for sitting in declassified First Class

FYI, Abbey Wood is managed by TfL and has a ticket office, ticket machines and a gateline which is staffed from first to last train. I'm fairly certain that Penalty Fare posters are displayed in the station building. It's very common to see Networkers with orange interiors, which will have...

Southeastern "Promotional Return" and starting short

When I tried to book from Abbey Wood before, it wouldn't give me the £20 fares for some reason. Tried again after clearing my past journey and now they're showing up. No idea what happened there. So, this is a much better idea and I'll just do this instead. Thanks!

Southeastern "Promotional Return" and starting short

Thanks. I suppose then these special fares are targeted more towards people who don't live within Southeastern's area, which is somewhat puzzling.

Southeastern "Promotional Return" and starting short

I'm looking to take advantage of the £20 London to Margate offer advertised by Southeastern. Since I live in Abbey Wood (and hold a Zones 1-4 Travelcard), can I start from Abbey Wood on this ticket? Its terms and conditions say that I cannot break and resume my journey, and I don't know if it's...

Penalty Fare for not having enough Oyster PAYG credit on National Rail

So what could my next step be? I'm honestly not fussed about the £20 at the end of the day, but the principle that the Oyster system works in a certain way (allowing negative balances) and for TOCs to arbitrarily not allow this to happen - not to mention the ordinary lack of enforcement - is...

Penalty Fare for not having enough Oyster PAYG credit on National Rail

I didn't think the TOCs could do that. Surely once I've paid the PF the matter's settled and they can't retroactively decide not to accept the payment?

Penalty Fare for not having enough Oyster PAYG credit on National Rail

No fear of that, I've already paid the PF - going by other threads I've read on this forum where the advice has always been to pay now and appeal later, to prevent the TOC from taking any further action if they're feeling petty.
