LNER to pilot removal of Off-Peak tickets

I’ve been trying to buy a ticket on the LNER route today and they have totally complicated the ticketing system. I was hoping the absolutely crazy discontinuation of return fares would be quickly dropped, but it seems like they are now doubling down with this ridiculous “70 minute flex”...

Does anyone know what this strange light is?

Close. It's an Emergency Speed Indicator, colloquially known as "Dalek". It indicates the approach to an unpublished Emergency Speed Restriction (ESR).

    A career as a signaller

Likelihood is it will be Ipswich if you’re going to Colchester. There is a VDU and NX course also running there from the 8th Jan.

    Manually Operated Crossing Gates (Anglia)

Not a lot! TOG is probably the more up to date term.

    Manually Operated Crossing Gates (Anglia)

Middleton Towers is a TMO (Train man operated) crossing. The 5 mentioned above are gates operated by a signaller or crossing keeper. If TMO's were included you would also have the following in addition to Middleton Towers... Knodishall TMO West House TMO Saxmundham Road TMO Leiston Station TMO...

    A career as a signaller

The roles around Colchester are generally for the Grade 4 - Colchester NYL link. This is a separate link based in Colchester PSB looking after the lines between Norwich and Lowestoft / Yarmouth.

    A career as a signaller

Travelling Sundays are payed at standard time and only for the hours travelled (the 4 hours worked, 6 hours pay rule doesn’t apply). So if you travelled for 3 hours, you would receive 3 hours at basic rate only. 1695656401 You walk across the race course to access Chippenham Junction. You just...

    A career as a signaller

Willesden relates to the depot. The jobs that were recently on the market were anglia region jobs, so are for the north London line boxes. The Willesden carriage shed boxes on the west coast mainline all fall under the West Coast South region. It all gets a bit complicated within London!

    A career as a signaller

Many Congratulations! You’ll be going to one of the following if it is one of the Willesden vacancies… Neasden Jn (Grade 2) Dudding Hill Jn (Grade 2) Acton Canal Wharf (Grade 2) Richmond (Grade 5) Or Willesden Relief The current vacancy is a pool which will then see your box allocated to you...

    IT jobs on the railways.

Network Rail have plenty. Just keep your eye on the vacncies, especially in Milton Keynes and London. Also Great Anglia have some IT vacancies at the moment. They may be a bit senior though.

what is Application under consideration for assessment 2 mean networkrail application

"Application Under Consideration to Assessment 2" basically means that your application has landed on the desk of the recruiting manager and will be considered for interview (Assessment 2.) Keep your eye on it, it will either change to "Invite to Assessment 2 pending" which means you will get...

priv discount to be allowed on off peak tickets

I know I didn't sign up for it when I joined NR, however I didn't realise how much of a two tier workforce it would be. It should be all or nothing. Even if we were entitled to let's say, a "rail staff railcard" with 1/3 off I would be happy.

priv discount to be allowed on off peak tickets

And us signallers still get no concessions :(. I wish there would be a day when anyone on the railway receives priv. It is a bug bear when we are as heavily involved in running trains as the TOC, yet we have to pay full whack to use them! What's even more annoying, is that people who don't even...

    Breckland Line

Yes, but one of the reasons the budget was approved for the modular signalling on the Ely-Norwich was because the crossings were entirely self sufficient. The second you have to add a full CCTV system to each crossing (even as a fallback) with data links back to Cambridge etc, you are then...

    Breckland Line

Were the barriers raised again whilst you were trapped or did a train pass whilst you were still inside them? Also was this an OD crossing you were trapped in, or a CCTV/Manned one?

A level crossing at both ends

Lingwood? Both the crossings are manual gates as well!

    Railway jobs and inflation

Signallers and front line operational staff within Network Rail are currently approaching the 2nd part of a 2 year pay rise deal seeing RPI+0.5% based on the November RPI. RPI+0.5% seems to have been the norm for a number of years now, and in the grand scheme of things is a very good pay rise.

Signaller Grade 3 based at Petersfield

Trust me a month is nothing in the world of NR HR. I'm already a signaller with Network Rail and when I got promoted from a grade 2 box to a grade 7 one it took 3 months alone just to find out if I had an interview, then another month to find out the result! Just sit patiently and the status...

Alert driver - HT wrong roaded at Gilberdyke

Unfortunately for us signallers most signals have a 2 minute timer on them if you put them back to danger when there is a train in the vicinity of it. Unfortunately this means if you are unfortunate to pull off a wrong route, when the driver rings in you have to wait for the longest 2 minutes of...

    BBC Documentary 'The Railways'

Still nothing about signallers at all. I think every other role on the railway has been covered apart from us siggies! The documentary portrays route control and station control as the people who run the trains. To a point they do but the signallers are the front line and surely need a mention?
