If I recall correctly, someone mentioned that an additional unit will be required to form the 0630 off Aberystwyth come the new hourly service. Having seen the drivers diagrams for the new service it would appear that this unit will be the one currently allocated to the 0807 Mach - Aber which...
A couple of bits of info.
Guard L Caisley is back at work and has worked 1G07 0514 ex Aberystwyth this week.
Crewe drivers and guards used to sign the Cambrian but not any longer. It is at least four years since any ATW Crewe traincrew worked over this route.
A couple of Pwllheli traincrew...
For those asking questions regarding the ability to speak Welsh. for the ATW vacancies.
You do not have to speak fluent Welsh for any of the positions advertised. However, it doesn't do any harm to your application if you can.
Generally speaking, drivers who only ever drove under RETB signalling on The Cambrian are less enthusiastic about ERTMS than those who have experience of driving elsewhere.
Under RETB, the only lineside signals were (apart from ABCL's, TMO's and an AOCL) were located at Merllyn (just east of...
Many railwaymen and women do work on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. I've sat on my fair share of ballast/engineering trains over the Christmas holiday in the past.
A limited number of EWS coal trains to/from Hull were routed via Drax Branch Junction, Goole, Gilberdyke for diversionary route knowledge up until June 2010. I used to work trains over that route myself. It may still happen but I am uncertain.
'Feel', You are spot on there. I have never driven a DVT but the points you make and the differences you describe are not dissimilar to those you get from driving freight trains of varying lengths, weights, wagon types and so on.
With some loco classes (60, 66. Don't know about 67's, 70's) the Westinghouse braking system is fitted and for the driver to make a full service brake application they would need to reduce the train brake pressure from 5.0 to 3.4.
The Westinghouse system permits the driver to select how much...
TOC's and FOC's have policies (well the FOC and TOC that I have worked for have) for assisting any member of staff if they advise that they have a problem such as this BUT staff cannot advise that they have a problem AFTER they have failed an alcohol test. Drugs are just a complete no no.
And another example is Alderley Edge. The settlement where the Alderley Edge station is, was originally part of Chorley.
Over Alderley and Nether Alderley lie south of the present settlement and the hill known as 'The Edge' which lies mainly within Over Alderley and Nether Alderley was...
Spoke with a Salop guard today and he confirmed the above information with the following clarifications.
Salop drivers sign as far as Llanwrtyd Wells on the HOWL.
They definitely sign Crewe - Chester as Pumbaa mentioned and they definitely sign Crewe - Wolves.
Salop drivers do not sign...
Salop drivers sign the following.
Salop - Birmingham International
Salop - Wrexham - Chester
Salop - Crewe - Manchester Piccadilly
Salop - Llandrindod Wells
I think some drivers may sign Crewe - Wolves, but I'm not certain. Same for Crewe - Chester. Not sure that drivers sign Cardiff Central...
And this already happens on a number of services on The Cambrian Coast where one guard is the train guard and has responsibility for the safety of the train and revenue collection and a second guard concentrates on revenue collection only.
I have received 2 against a signal on an occasion or two. I've just buzzed one back until I receive a proceed aspect then I give two but still stand til i get two back, if that makes any sense.
There certainly was talk of this and I mentioned this to a union rep recently who stated that it was not looking likely.

On an infrastructure usage note an heavily delayed 1J03 0624 Birmingham NS - Aberystwyth and 1G25 0930 Aberystwyth - Birmingham...
