    Caledonian Sleeper

Southbound from Glasgow sold out tonight as well. I often have to make last minute travel arrangements to get to London, and I don't ever remember not being able to get on the old sleeper at short notice. I miss the old sleeper :-)

Place name differences: the railway calls it by this name, but everyone else calls it by that name!

Holytown train station isn't in Holytown, its in New Stevenson. They are two distinct villages with greenfield between them, and Holytown station is in the area of New Stevenson farthest away from Holytown, so I've always wondered why the station is named the way it is.

Police Scotland to take over British Transport Police in Scotland? [Now on hold]

Why don't you stop hiding your feelings and say what you really mean ? :D

    Edinburgh Gateway - A White Elephant ?

Doesn't save the problem for all. Most of Lanarkshire (ie those coming on the Motherwell/Wishaw/Carstairs or the Bellshill/Shotts lines) go into Edinburgh through Wester Hailes, meaning the first opportunity to get to Edinburgh Park or surrounding areas is to go into Haymarket and then...

    Scotrail Seasons Loyalty Discount

How did you get your season ticket onto your smartcard ? I've been trying for weeks to get them to load my annual paper season ticket onto it without success. The smartcard telephone team sound pleasant and helpful, but keep telling me to email customer relations, who never respond. I...

    Football Hooligans - AGAIN

Its the same some of thing that resulted in their being more arrests at the Take That concert at Hampden two years ago than there has ever been at any Old Firm game ever. The behaviour of some ****ed up middle-aged women on their one night out of the year has to be seen to be believed sometimes.

£200 for trespassing at Dalreoch..£1000 for Bellgrove

My favourite platform is one at one of the stations in the Lake District (Oxenholme maybe?) which just says simply "Beware Of Trains". Something we should all remember when entering a train station.

    Concerts in Glasgow and Edinburgh

You would think this is what would happen, but in reality it doesn't. After Scotland games at Hampden, the queue at Mount Florida station is generally around 30-45 mins long, and very often when you do get onto the platform you can often to wait quite some time for the next timetabled train...

Four central Glasgow stations to be gated

I think you might be making stuff up here. You are unlikely to get "football yobs" on a train on a Friday night because there are no football matches played in Scotland on Friday nights, the police will not allow it.

    My recent experiences

You need a better thread title. Most people will simply ignore it, it's so vague. Only my curiosity and the bottle of wine I've just had (!) made me click on it.

    Football Special

The last home game (Spain midweek?) we were certainly turned away at the barriers and told to go on the football special. From what I could see, everyone in kilts was getting told the same, and those in civvies were getting let through.

    Football Special

Not strictly true. There are lots of football specials run from Glasgow Central to Mount Florida when Scotland are playing at Hampden, and there is always a large, but pretty efficient, queuing system in operation for them. There are also service trains to Mount Florida running as normal...

London to Glasgow via train or plane. Which is faster.

I do this route weekly, and plane is faster 99% of the time. This evening I'll finish in the city at 1830 and catch the 1955 flight from London City to Glasgow. Lands at 2115, I'll be home in Motherwell by 2200. If I were to get the train, the first train home (1930) would get into...
