    Dangerous boarding procedures at Euston

It also causes problems - it's not much fun when you've got a large black americano (coffee) in your hand and you have to deal with a whole horde at once. If you use RTT advance mode, you can get the headcode and you can use that on traksy.uk (mpas side) or OpenTrainTimes maps (and others may...

"Please avoid using any third party applications"

Euston have even started doing that with London Overground, which is something of an exercise in futility since there are only two platforms that it can realistically use (9 and 10, with third rail) without having to do a power changeover. I did once "talk" my sister (over WhatsApp text) to an...

'Higher Speed' Lines by bypassing slow sections with new track

The section (edit: of the Leamside Line) south of the Victoria Viaduct would be mostly useful for speed, the problem would be the curves on the viaduct approach; from about there onwards any worthwhile high-speed cutoff would need a new alignment anyway.

    "I'm a Signalman, not a Signaller!"

Good to know, but you might have to go with "signal person" or even "signalperson" if you need a non-gender-specific term that maps to manus.

LNER to pilot removal of Off-Peak tickets

Based on what I have read on other threads, I suspect that there is an attempt to route passengers away from the Midland Main Line/EMR side of St Pancras as much as any desire to conserve revenue, although both are possible factors. The thing that is most jarring is the lack of transparency...

LNER to pilot removal of Off-Peak tickets

I had a look at the "fully flexible" ticket (I live near the trial area) and it seems that it loses a lot of the route flexibility by becoming LNER-only and requiring journeys to be via Peterborough.

St Pancras safety concerns at top of EMR P1-4 escalator (11/02)

Once the inbound train is in the platform, the passengers should be allowed to approach the train and where the reservations are "on", there is no reason not to allow boarding.

ASLEF announce five days of strike action on LNER due to potential implementation of Minimum Service Law

Whichever one it is, ASLEF have reacted badly to minimum service levels and that just makes them look like sore losers.

ASLEF announce five days of strike action on LNER due to potential implementation of Minimum Service Law

ASLEF's timing just makes it look like they are throwing their toys out of the pram. That is how it looks.

Overcrowding at St. Pancras (EMR) 03/12/23

You expect to be able to show up and basically get on with a ticket, and a seat with a reservation. You do not expect to be bossed around by incompetent so-called security. This is not going to go down well with those of us who do and will pay train fares just to avoid having to deal with the...

    TPE Plan for the future

Was that before or after they decided to let the Nova 3s go?

    Carbon passports in the future?

At least it is not a real thing yet, but thread-level OP is quoting the London Evening Standard... so someone knows something is coming?

    HS2 Old Oak Common

I was in the Old Oak Common area earlier this year and compared to other terminal areas, there is very little there especially if there is an incident that causes one side of the service to have to "tip out" rather than change trains.

Potential up to 2,000 job losses at Alstom Derby

With a track record like that, Alstom Derby does have problems that they need to address anyway. There is probably a large element of 'the system' involved.

    Antisocial behaviour on trains

You can't be sure that the SMS has gone from the phone to the person. So you need to call. 1696642734 Also the whole thing about phone calls just shows how subjective 'antisocial behaviour' really is. If you have only a short time with no advance planning, then you would definitely need to use a...

Terminating HS2 at Euston via existing lines

Plus two of them are four-rail (shared with the LU Bakerloo Line and a turnback facility).

Confirmed : HS2 West Midlands-Manchester line to be scrapped and replaced with other projects.

It depends what they do with those lines, if there is some improvement on those lines then it might not be so bad after all, especially if it speeds up other trains as well.

Confirmed : HS2 West Midlands-Manchester line to be scrapped and replaced with other projects.

HS2 was already a long way round to places like York (and beyond). For the east side, only a second line would be worthwhile. 30 mins off a journey to Newcastle would not be enough to encourage people to railhead there to go to London.

How actively are electronic displays at bus stops used to provide updates?

It can be done; The displays on Chester-le-Street front street normally just show timetables, but today they were showing notices about a current bus driver strike and an abridged timetable with at least some of the services that were still running (X12, 25, 71).

Minimum Service Levels Bill receives Royal Assent

What is DAS and (how) is that supposed to affect train driving?
