    HS2 Old Oak Common

A report from the BBC on residents and TfL concerns around road transport and bus access around Old Oak Common. Residents living close to the new HS2 high-speed railway station at Old Oak Common in north-west London say they are "shattered" that their main road could be closed for four years...

    Haydons Road Station

As a Broncos supporter living on the WCML - my preferred route is to Euston , then Victoria to Vauxhall then SWR to Earlsfield . The walk to the Cherry Red gate line is about the same as from Tooting Broadway but the Northern Line is quite unpleasant in hot weather. The shortest walk from...

    Night arrival into Euston.

Yes - travelling back from Euston after a (relatively ) late night out in town I have noticed LNR trains arriving often full with standing passengers . I guess this shows the size of the night time economy in London . There's plenty to do if you have the cash and the energy . London isn't...

Project Oval: TfL win DfT contract to expand contactless system to 233 rail stations by May 2024, Railcards coming to contactless payment cards

I must be misreading the LNR website - I cannot see any evening restrictions on a Off-peak Travelcard Z1-6 with Senior RC - £16.75 from my station. This compares to the existing Off-peak TC at £18.50 ( with Senior ) - again with no evening restrictions . However it is more than the current Super...

Project Oval: TfL win DfT contract to expand contactless system to 233 rail stations by May 2024, Railcards coming to contactless payment cards

Currently with Oyster/Contactless - there is a "counterpeak" exception if you travel in the afternoon peak against the flow on the Euston lines - so Watford Jnct to Euston after 16:00 ( before 19:00) is off-peak but any travel outside of this line is peak. So in the Windsor - Bletchley example...

West Midlands Trains (LNR route) Guards doing more ticket checks?

Not exactly a ticket check - but a couple of days ago I was asked to show my ticket to a couple of LNR uniformed youngsters doing a ticket survey. I had a paper travelcard , the young lady waved what looked like an oversized phone in its direction . I assume she took a photo . The only question...

HS2 Colne Valley Viaduct construction updates

The nearest station is Denham . The Moorhall Road works are a short walk away . Or take TfL 331 either from Uxbridge station or Denham station - its route goes underneath the viaduct . A little further along the road crosses the Grand Union canal -so you could try the towpath both north and...

    Begging getting worse on trains?

Just to add - a few months ago I did see quite a distressing sight (probably on the Met/Circle between Euston and Paddington). A youngish man looking for money - a downcast gaze and almost too ashamed to ask for money - I don't think he even had the energy to talk. He looked totally beaten...

Oyster Card 'Registration' and Railcard Discount

I've not had this problem . I am now on my 4th 3 year Senior Railcard . I renew on-line for the plastic version . You can do this 30 days in advance of expiry and the card arrives in less than 2 weeks. I am not keen on leaving the Oyster (re) registration to the last minute. I use my nearest TfL...

    ENCTS and London buses

Unfortunately I had another row last night (23/6 ) with a driver on the 282 at Mount Vernon Hospital over acceptance of my Herts ENCTS . He insisted I swiped the card against Oyster - I said it wouldn't work but complied anyway . He then used the "invalid card " message to claim it wasn't valid...

Project Oval: TfL win DfT contract to expand contactless system to 233 rail stations by May 2024, Railcards coming to contactless payment cards

Just to add - all of the LNR Smartcard readers have gone at Berkhamsted . Just empty power/data conduits left . Seems a shame they couldn't be converted - they weren't fitted that long ago. As the "Oyster" reader is still to be installed - LNR cards cannot be tapped in / out .

Project Oval: TfL win DfT contract to expand contactless system to 233 rail stations by May 2024, Railcards coming to contactless payment cards

An Oyster style card reader spotted at Berkhamsted station yesterday . At least one of the LNR Smartcard readers seems to have disappeared - I guess they will use the same wiring infrastructure where possible . Did anyone actually use the LNR card , I have yet to see anyone tap in or out ...

new Portillo Great British Railway Journeys series 14 - starts Monday 19th June 18:30 BBC2

Hopefully more rail orientated than his Coastal Railways series - which were really a "Down Your Way" for TV - for those with long memories.

    Quintinshill rail disaster (1915)

The lack of persistent use of the collar was one of those areas a contributor to the BBC program highlighted. I believe they stated it was in the rule book but the Caledonian knew it wasn't being rigorously observed at that signal box (and elsewhere) but did little about it . I think the issue...

Trying to join the Oyster Fares Central site

Thanks for trying - It gave me an idea that the Password check was being blocked. I disabled Adblock Plus and it now works !

Trying to join the Oyster Fares Central site

I am trying to signup to OFC - but it keeps rejecting any sort of password. The password strength indicator doesn't show any results . I have tried in MS Edge & Google Chrome . Plus generated several 8 and over character passwords ( with case, punctuation , symbols , numbers ) using my Norton...

    ENCTS and London buses

https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/encts-being-queried-on-tfl-buses.227876/ My original post was after showing my Hertfordshire ENCTS as usual , a few TfL drivers then insisted I swiped it against the Oyster reader - either by pointing at it or by command. Then reacting to the "invalid card"...

    Quintinshill rail disaster (1915)

Neil Oliver's "The Quintinshill Rail Disaster" made for the BBC is worth searching out. Going from my memory - a contributor to the program suggested the Caledonian Railway knew that it's rule book was being flouted but turned a blind eye - hence had some responsibility. The railwaymen...
