    Twitter-the train driver's enemy

As I have written in other posts I have given you an incident that occurred. It would not be appropriate to give specific dates/names etc. any further details you want could I guess be achieved by making FOI requests to TOC's. When you have worked in every TOC, on every section of the...

    Twitter-the train driver's enemy

Actually at 20 mph it is not difficult to see what someone is doing in the other cab, especially as you are looking that way when you acknowledge them. Just talking from experience mate. You say no, I say yes. The wonders of having different views/experiences and disagreeing. In today's...

The train cab that I drive from every day.

    Twitter-the train driver's enemy

As a professional I know when not to use my phone. Perhaps you should talk to the driver who was dismissed because he was on his phone when he passed a signal at danger at a major junction. Anyway, you don't have to join in with this conversation if you find it annoying, there are plenty of...

    Twitter-the train driver's enemy

What, and you are saying train driver's don't use mobile phones. Driver's are doing it all the time. And there are cases where people have passed signals at danger and lost their job because they were on their phone. The Black box will not tell you whether a driver was on his phone, booking...

    Twitter-the train driver's enemy

As I previously said, I have no problem with passengers using Twitter to get information about delays or complaining generally about lack of information. What I do object to is people raising issues that they have clearly not investigated first and managers taking their comments at face value...

Trains leaving early and cancelling stops

Very often the clocks don't work or tell different times! At Tottenham Hale, the large Radio Controlled clock is always ahead of the clock on the display board on the platform, which is invariably different to the driver's watch!! So I always wait until every clock is saying the right time. If...

    Twitter-the train driver's enemy

Passengers know no end of uses for Twitter. As a driver if you wanted to know why there was a delay look on twitter. Then you will know everything. But now Twitter is being used more and more to report driver's. The other day a driver was reported on Twitter for being on his mobile phone...

    UK Storms

Buses leaving Stansted Airport are not much use for the 99% who travel from Stortford, Harlow Town etc. Buses would be more useful and at 5:30 in Horne morning whilst they are proving the route from Cheshunt's up to the airport and Cambridge, probably one bus would have been more helpful advice.

    UK Storms

Services from London Liverpool to Stanstead Airport still suspended due to overhead wire damage. No replacement buses will be provided. HOWEVER, National Express and Terravision operate services to London by coach BUT WAIT FOR IT Greater Anglia tickets are not valid!! Helpful advice.

    UK Storms

Services are being suspended until about 09:00 tomorrow morning. Passengers encouraged not to travel. No mention of replacement buses. Let's hope that the high winds and rain appear!!! :D

Passengers trying to board before passengers can alight...

Even worse is Stratford Station, London when every 5 minutes throughout the day you get a booming voice shouting over the Tannoy 'FOR YOUR SAFETY, PLEASE KEEP LEFT ON STAIRS AND SUBWAYS' followed by an even louder voice saying 'STRATFORD IS A NO SMOKING STATION. PLEASE EXTINGUISH YOUR...

    Driver despatch Tottenham Hale

What is there at Angel Road? Why does the even station exist? The fact that only about 4 trains stop there in the morning and the same in the afternoon and about a dozen people get off in total says it all!!! I think it's just there sometimes to catch the driver out!!!

Greater Anglia - First Class offering

You will get a seat at a table with a lamp! What more do you want?! Otherwise don't expect to be wowed!! It is nothing like the East Coast/Virgin etc

    Driver despatch Tottenham Hale

Not strictly true. The difference is that at every other station on the GA side (about 150) where there is DOO the driver can see the length of the train as they depart by looking back out of their window or by looking at the monitors or mirrors. It is just at these 5 stations mentioned enforce...

    Driver despatch Tottenham Hale

Good question. At Broxbourne and Harlow Town, if you go into Patform's 1 or 4 the doors are on the opposite side to the driving controls. So, if no staff are available, you stick your head out of the second man's side window, shut the doors, wait for interlock and then walk back across the cab...

    Depot driver to mainline

To answer you original question. At GA, depot and mainline driver's initially train together to look at basic rules and traction. After about 3 months depot driver's go to their depots, undertake training there and pass out as Depot driver's. Then if they want too they go to the bottom of the...
