Why cant FCC get the carriages the same way round?

Sorry, can I just check, this post is a wind-up isn't it? If not being able to find 1st class- thereby causing the risk of you having to mingle with the 'common folk'- is really such a big deal to you, you must have little else to worry about in life. Surely someone 'at their wits end' is...

    Derailment at Shrewsbury

Heard a rumour that the derailment was caused by one of the buffers on the 4th wagon falling off, and nothing to do with the track at all- a buffer was certainly missing of the now famous '4th truck' when I saw it yesterday parked at Shrewsbury (on the middle round as Michael says). Unlucky...

    Holyhead - Cardiff Rugex 10th & 17th March

I think the 08.07 ex-Holyhead and the 18.19 ex-Cardiff Central might be the LHCS, given that both are showing as running via Crewe on National Rail Enquiries. EDIT- Or what he said! :)

    Bletchley Derailment

Out of curiosity, why would the sleeper have been stopped at Preston and not somewhere further south, such as Crewe?

West Coast Invitation to Tender,Salop comments

Terminate at Telford, from Euston, via Chester? Really? Surely Euston, Chester, round through Shrewsbury to Wolves and back down to Euston again in a loop would make more sense? Detach a Voyager at Chester for Holyhead, pick one up at Wolves for the return and vice versa. Just an idea :)

'Big man' vs Sam Main incident (final decision: no charges for either)

The entire incident was badly handled from everyone involved. The lad should have explained his situation calmly to the guard (if what he now claims is true) and accept he should have checked what he was sold before moving from the ticket window. The fact he has been caught bragging on Fb does...

    Passengers Missing Their Stops

Once in a blue moon I'll have a passenger who, as I show them which button they should have pressed, will have the good grace to admit they were opening the toilet or opening the door on the other side etc. But as I say, it is very rare. People should take responsibility for their own actions...

    WAG Express discussion

I think Roman Bridge station being shut for repairs? Seems odd mind as most of that period it'll no doubt resort to buses anyway!

    Strangest Diversion

Some time in mid-2003, I used a Swansea-Crewe via the Heart of Wales service, having started my journey from Milford Haven. The 153 made it as far as Shrewsbury fine before it was joined by a Manchester-bound 158. Together they ran in convoy to Crewe... via Wolverhampton! Good old engineering works!

Newport station named as one of ugliest new developments

It's a truly horrible structure- no doubt designed by somebody who never has to see or use it! A crying shame when the old Great Western building, that once was the entrance to the station, now stands empty and unused.

Pensarn to Abergale & Pensarn Borth to Porth

Biggest gap and/or step down to the platform nomination thread.

Hopton Heath on the Heart of Wales line... the platform isn't far off being at ballast level!!

    Fantasy Preserved Line.

The Bishops Castle branch from Craven Arms (funny how so much of this topic has been looking at the south Shropshire area!) but with the never fulfilled extension to Montgomery. And to go with the 'possible extensions of existing lines' idea- extend the Llangollen Railway not just to Corwen...

    Funny announcement at a station.

"This train is being delayed by the train in front of it. The train in front is being delayed by... er, something else." Least it got a smile from a few people!

    Ridiculous Train Travel Mistakes

Last I saw of her was getting off at Caersws to set off back to Shrewsbury. I would assume up to Crewe and see what happened from there, whether it be VT or sleeper. Off the top of my head I think there are 5 stations on the Cambrian beginning with an 'L' (any experts here feel free to prove...

    Ridiculous Train Travel Mistakes

I've known passengers who have confused station names before... Borth & Porth, Newtown & Newport, Pensarn with Abergele & Pensarn are semi-regluar mistakes. Then there was the family who were going on holiday to Towyn on the north Wales coast and decided to go by rail... "Family ticket to Tywyn...

    Timetable with most slack

Gobowen to Shrewsbury is an unusual one, as it has padding only on certain journeys. Holyhead-Cardiff trains are given about 20 minutes between the two stations- fair enough for a 20 minute journey! But Holyhead-Birmingham trains are booked as 32 minutes to cover the same distance. This is...

    Drunks

I travelled on a train last year where the Guard flatly refused to take the train due to the number of drunks throwing bottles and cans, fighting etc (not me I hasten to add!) There were several other people on the train, amongst them a group of birdwatchers and several families with very small...

    Cambrian line help

Shame you said no to the coast, there is a lovely fish and chip shop in Aberdovey. Nice views across the estuary towards Ynyslas and Borth, and it's nice to walk along the beach a little in the sea air. Or, if you're feeling energetic, get off at Tywyn and walk along the beach to Aberdovey!

    Dodgy Automated Announcements

ATW services don't have any Welsh at all on their auto announcements, but you can still have the old 'Welcome aboard this Wales and West Service' if the conductor isn't careful! Incidentally, the announcement at Birmingham New Street for today's 1424 ATW to Pwllheli and Aberystwyth announced...
