Do you think that the UK switching to electric vehicles is realistic?

Fuel cells? Don't make me laugh. Hydrogen as a fuel isn't clever, isn't green, isn't efficient and isn't safe. Hindenberg Disaster 1937. Nobody wants that stuff being transported and stored in their locality, and definitely not near their house.

Do you think that the UK switching to electric vehicles is realistic?

About 60% of households DO have space for home charging, and the remaining 40% can either use top-up charging wherever they travel to (work, shops, parking spaces); or use lamp-post chargers or other solutions to charge from their house. Thousands of EV owners in that situation seem to cope...

Confirmed : HS2 West Midlands-Manchester line to be scrapped and replaced with other projects.

The whole HS2 cock-up would make a fantastic comedy series, similar to The Thick of it, W1A 1AA and 2012 and Yes Minister..

Crossrail - Construction updates and progress towards opening (now expected 24 May 2022)

Wasn't there a TV documentary about them installing the escalators at Canary Wharf? Have these been removed and replaced? It all looked like quite a performance.

Stations rebranded to Great British Railways design / Rail Alphabet 2

I can't see collectors fighting for rare examples of this boring, weak-looking stuff in 100 years time. Give me LT's Johnston typeface any day.

    Euston Square Puzzle

Exactly. Obviously the Met couldn't divert to the North, I meant to question the West-East location of the station. 1614334023 I realise it wouldn't be practical to divert the Met line Northwards, but was questioning the West-East location, and the puzzling choice of the Met's location, to the...

    Euston Square Puzzle

It is planned to connect the new HS2 station to Euston Square underground station, but it has always puzzled me why they didn’t place the Met station near the main line station itself. The track passes near Euston, indeed the East end of the Met’s platform is quite near, but there is no entrance...

Network Rail draws up list of ‘no regret’ electrification schemes - New Civil Engineer

The infrastructure is proving more than adequate, accoring to EV users in Britain. The more you look into EVs, the more they "tick all the boxes". Quite apart from being much better than filthy petrol cars in every way, you only have to get over the idea of "filling up" at a petrol station...

So now the government wants to see if the Chinese would be cheaper

The new Tesla Gigafactory in China was producing cars within 12 months, from being a swampy field without any infrastructure at all. The Chinese system does seem to work wonders - but obviously a totalitarian state can simply trample over any opposition - even the twinset-and-pearls NIMBYs - if...

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

Not the old "rich businessmen" thing again :-( HS2 is about increasing local trains on the classic lines, by removing long distance express trains to HS2, which is basically a bypass line.

Dangerous overcrowding at Stratford 31st Jan

When we all had to pile out of the Central Line at Liverpool Street after the accident, there was little to no information about how we could get home. This was pretty much "last train home" time, so in panic I chose to run to the Overground platforms and squeezed onto a train to Stratford. We...

Dangerous overcrowding at Stratford 31st Jan

The Eastbound Central line platform could be made much safer by removing the staff room at the top of the stairs, which would at least give passengers somewhere to move to, other than the tracks! When people are piling out of trains on both sides, it really is scary.

"Station bypass lines.." Isn't that exactly what HS2 is?

Hope they just get on with it, finally. Next time, maybe we should get the Chinese to build any new lines...

Great video. A bit of rational thinking in all this chaotic jungle of arguments.

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

If they had BCR's and associated bean-counters back in Roman or Victorian times would we have any roads at all? Or railways?

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

I think it has been established logically that Liverpool will get faster services thanks to HS2. End of. Some people here are like a broken 78rpm record - stuck in the same groove, and it's becoming quite a bore..

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

Whilst I reckon going by train, long distance, is preferable than by car, even an EV.... They do have so many advantages, and very few draw-backs, quite apart from them being infinitely better cars to drive anyway:
