Is the public transport in Latvia better than the UK?

Considering how much smaller Latvia is, it's probably quite a bit easier to make sure most neighbouring towns are linked by rail.

    Belgian trains on left-hand-side tracks?

South Korea is also left for rail, even though motor vehicle traffic keeps right.

    Merseyrail Class 777 introduction updates

So long as it's before 2030, I'm happy.

    Headbolt Lane progress updates

Well, it is an additional station on the Merseyrail side, as the existing Kirkby station will remain as an intermediate stop but you'll need to change at Headbolt Lane to access it from Wigan -> Rainford.

    What to do about London-Chester

Threaded between 6tph Merseyrail each way? Nah. That would also do for any North Wales extensions.

"Covid rising in England" - let's stop the fear mongering

Ah, those geographically huge ambulance services. They're also not fit for purpose. My father-in-law took a funny turn earlier this year while we were eating out in central Liverpool. Ambulance took over two hours to show up. We may as well have carried him the hospital, it only being down the...

What happens if you sell something on eBay, but the buyer never takes delivery?

If I received a message like that, I'd be making a complaint to eBay.

"Covid rising in England" - let's stop the fear mongering

Getting a face to face appointment with my local GP is still near impossible. Also, not doing the phone thing anymore. They talk to you like you're taking up their free time. He was borderline rude to me last time.

What happens if you sell something on eBay, but the buyer never takes delivery?

Hermes are a waste of space. I ordered something on eBay a couple of months or so back. A month or so later, it still hadn't arrived so I looked on eBay which had tracking info. Apparently, the parcel had been put in my "safe place". I don't have a safe place, so they just left it lying around...

"Covid rising in England" - let's stop the fear mongering

Personally, I feel rationality and logic went out the window in March 2020. Btw, finally caught COVID 19 late last week and am still wrestling with it. Couldn't help but feel I was missing out.

    Skelmersdale station proposals & suggestions

Although via St Helens does have the semifast Blackpool-Lime Street service and, maybe one day, reliable intercity services to and from Scotland. That said, Merseyrail offers better penetration of the city centre via Moorfields and Liverpool Central and much better links to the Bootle/North...

    What now for HS2

I don't think there's any Northern Powerhouse Rail anyway. The comically unserious name gives it away really. That said, what's left of the Leeds leg will go before the Manchester part does.

    Skelmersdale station proposals & suggestions

You'd think but if you believe the commentary on this thread, Skem & Wigan have near enough nothing to do with Liverpool and unless there's services crossing Wigan, providing West Lancs with direct services to the Northern Powerhouse, the Kirkby-Wigan line isn't worth anything and may as well be...

Which train company brand names does the public know and use, and why?

"Thameslink" comes from linking both sides of the river, surely?

What route may the HS2 Marsden spur take?

I think what he had in mind was the stoppers becoming two separate services terminating at Greenfield and Marsden respectively.
  16. Gareth

What route may the HS2 Marsden spur take?

I assume the stoppers would still want to run through from Manchester to Huddersfield. Freight too, presumably.

Suitable candidates for conversion to light rail

Thanks for the info. So, it's pretty much "heavy light rail" as I described above... ...and not comparable to a Pacer, for goodness sake.

Suitable candidates for conversion to light rail

There is a technical difference in terms of infrastructure used. Light rail tends have cheaper vehicles with less crash worthiness as they're not expected to be sharing rights of way with heavy rail trains. They're usually run on line of sight (that is driver reaction, like a bus) and this...

    Harry Gration has died.

Possibly Lucy Meacock at this point, too.
