The joint line was built bypassing Sleaford and then a spur to the station added. So it wasn't quite built as a freight avoiding line, but other than ECML diversions, that's all it's ever been.

The other thing to bear in mind is the distance to your local station. An hour or two commute is one thing, but if you end up with a half hour drive at either end because of traffic, that could be a real killer.

The Travelodge at Southwark is perfect for this. Two minutes from the tube on the Jubilee which runs to Wembley. There is a Premier Inn there, too, but it's a few extra minutes walk (but a bit nicer).
