Pre pandemic there used to be a 23.00 Euston to Piccadilly which ran slow all the way and was set down only at stoke , macc and Stockport , I assume it was some stock movement ??? I used it once after West Ham v macc caraboa cup match
For many years congleton station has had a rather rundown and unloved appearance yet in the 80s it was manned from first to last train and kept lovingly winning awards iirc. Thankyou for your words regarding the pub next door where I am the chef
Glasgow central is just fab to arrive at it has such atmosphere!!! Also love York, Bristol TM, Paddington and fave little station is castle Cary , hate Euston and new st , also like Stoke - on-Trent with it NS railway architecture
So many grim lonely stations out there but rugby and it’s fallen importance yet still vast platforms is up there , changing trains at kidsgrove can be grim and my hometown station of congleton is bleak bleak bleak but the fantastic pub the queens is next door
Loughborough used to be like that didn’t it, platforms extend beyond that narrow bridge but out of bounds , all changed now of course with the extensions on the other ends
Macclesfield on the Manchester bound is very narrow at the ticket office exit where most people congregate, luckily passing trains are slowing for the curve anyway
Most interesting: Highland main line , I love the old stations , aviemore is just stunning , the scenery especially over drumochter best seen while in first class on a HST while having dinner , and the glint of the moray firth as you arrive into Inverness
Most nostalgic : Bristol temple meads...
My local station of congleton isn’t the best after dark , it’s very remote being nowhere near town and unmanned past 13.00 , low patronage at night too , females must feel vulnerable, nearby queens head is a friendly gaff to wait for trains though
I’ve always liked the approach’s to Inverness on the HML about 10 minutes out overlooking the moray firth and Kessock bridge in glimpses, then dropping into the city through woodland
