it’s a fairly safe bet that standard class passengers and taxpayers will indeed be paying for 1st class refreshments.

I would not support the division of 1ST into 1ST and STD+ on the ECML. I would however support the re-introduction of the Restaurant, which creates a 1ST+ product in effect. Here in the UK stage lengths are not long enough to warrant a business class product with flat bed. They are however long...

Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

I have noticed that on my route - King's Cross <> Newcastle, up to last year the cheapest tickets were reliably released for both legs when bookings opened. Every now and again, including at Christmas last year, LNER's inventory analyst would make a mistake and release the cheapest ticket on...

Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

Just a question and not a criticism. I can book tickets on the LNER and Grand Central sites further ahead than here on the forum. Is it possible for our booking engine to match these others in terms of booking window? Jun to Sep Advances are likely to be released soon and I will have a dozen or...

    Shinkansen seat numbering mystery

Thanks everyone. That's really cool to see and also explains why a couple of groups were sitting facing each other.

    Shinkansen seat numbering mystery

Konichiwa! I have been using a Japan Rail Pass to travel on the Shinkansen in the Green Car (premium class). I have done Tokyo -> Shin Osaka -> Hiroshima -> Okayama -> Himeji -> Kyoto -> Tokyo. It has been an excellent experience and I recommend it to all, but there is something strange going...

Controversial railway opinions (without a firm foundation in logic..)

Controversial railway opinions (without a firm foundation in logic..)

A pair of kippers, served on the bone, is the only acceptable meal to be served on InterCity services departing before 11am.

Controversial railway opinions (without a firm foundation in logic..)

All single class services should be reclassified from STD to 1ST So every seat on, say, Northern, is a first class seat.

    First Class: Coke v Pepsi

I reckon that Pepsi let LNER have their product for free and consider it a marketing expense.

How do I get from London to Glastonbury?

Thanks all. These are most helpful comments. I'll probably go via Castle Cary with a pre-booked cab and some just-in-case numbers. I'm just going to Glastonbury the town, not the festival.

How do I get from London to Glastonbury?

I need to go to Glastonbury on Sat-10-Jun, departing Paddington. Public transport seems limited... I don't mind paying for a cab from an appropriate station, but want to avoid (a) paying £100 return just for taxi and (b) arriving and finding that no transport is available. What is the optimum...

    Eurostar/Trainline

One of the big value points of Biz Prem is that they GUARANTEE to find you a seat on the train you want. They do not, however, guarantee that you will sit in Biz Prem. I used this myself the other day when I arrived at Rotterdam Station 3:22 before my booked train and 0:22 before the next one -...

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

Pepsi not Coke - that's a major change. If the bacon roll and sausage roll are returning to be all-day items then I am all for this menu. Those two are in my opinion the greatest all-day options LNER ever offered. But if, as I fear, they are only for breakfast then the rest-of-day stuff really...

Will Avanti West Coast operate on 14-May-22?

I heard back from Michael today, who kindly advised me that fares were just released. I bought my ticket for the train I wanted. Thanks Avanti! 8-)

Will Avanti West Coast operate on 14-May-22?

I e-mailed three of Avanti's commercial and revenue management people to ask when they will release fares for most services. Claire Hennebel - Head of Pricing & Revenue Optimisation Michael Stewart - Director of Revenue Management Sarah Copley - Executive Director, Commercial Hopefully a...

Will Avanti West Coast operate on 14-May-22?

Except they are not. The 1907 departure has a Rail Sale STD Premium, STD Off Peak, STD Anytime and 1ST Anytime available, no advances. All other trains are "sold out" so the fares clearly have not been loaded yet. Useless operator - what a shambles.

Will Avanti West Coast operate on 14-May-22?

I need to get from Penrith to London on 14-May-22. With just over three weeks to go tickets are not yet available. Is this just because they have not finalised the timetable yet, or does it mean that they will not operate at all for engineering work? Many thanks in advance.

Branding and marketing blunders or failures on the railway.

"We're a Virgin company so we love to talk. We think it comes from Richard - he loves a good chinwag" As seen on Virgin Trains East Coast on something like day three of operations. The staff were all still wearing their old East Coast uniforms but we were expected to believe that because it was...
