    LilLoaf's latest train book

So really that's a named service, not a named train. To be a pedant :p

    LilLoaf's latest train book

I got a copy off someone and to be honest, not impressed. Full of bad information. For example... NXEC do not own/run Neville Hill or Heaton. Clayhills, NXEC run, missed out. Might as well mention Inverness for stabling, if you want to mention Neville Hill and Heaton. Hot spare is not...

    London to Wick direct

Don't think they run any more, the 0700 is to Manchester now.

    London to Wick direct

Ideally I think the most sucessful route would be Wick - Georgemass Junction via Penzance and Grays. There is a reason the wick line has a bad service, it serves places of little population and isn't well used (passenger count wise)! Hence the cheap as muck fares and bad service. No benefit...

    London to Wick direct

    How about Whitby - Middlesborough - York - Leeds - Skipton - Heysham - Lancaster - Warrington - Chester - Llandudno :?: :p

    London to Wick direct

You are of course aware that Thurso/Wick and Kyle struggle to stay open and wouldn't if it wasn't for heavy subsidy and low fares. Do you think a private comany could make profit out of it? I doubt it. What's the name of your open access company, Great Stoat Railways? Also, Northbound run...

    London to Wick direct

1S45 which leaves EUS at 0830 arrives at Preston at 1038 with stops at Warrington and Wigan, so I doubt a 180 could do it much faster...

    London to Wick direct

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thames-Clyde_Express When Northern (or was it Arrive back then?) ran Leeds - Glasgow, the services were fairly well loaded whenever I used the service. As you've said, running through to Hull or somewhere would probably increase usage. A service like this...

    London to Wick direct

The Thames-Clyde Express would be a good name for that ;)

    EMT: Master Cutler Issues

I've just sent an email to NXEC suggesting that they hire in a Voyager to use on the 0550 EDB - KGX and stop at all shacks to Newcastle...

    EMT: Master Cutler Issues

Were EMT solely responsible for the timetable change, or was it influenced by the DfT/NR?

    EMT: Master Cutler Issues

It would make sense to have the 0634 ex Leeds running non-stop from Chesterfield to St Pancras as the Master Cutler. The Meridian could start from Sheffield at more or less the same time and run via Nottingham in the HSTs path. If they did this they might also manage to poach some...

    Caravans overlooking railway lines

I've stayed in a former platelayers cottage next to the WCML at Tebay. This was back when there were proper trains running on there, so I'm not sure if it's still available. IIRC it was in the small ads of one of the railway magazines. Flash Earth link

    Micklefield Engineering Works

General track renewals, particularly in Church Fenton Down Leeds platform. Track was in a bad way. Hoping they up the 15mph restrictions on Northern in that platform now.

    TOCs with free Wi-Fi ?

It worked on my phone when I tried it on your birthday meet. The signal strength was a bit patchy though.

    Cross country Guildford

Aha, I only quickly looked for a relevant thread and this one caught my eye. A one with a title mentioning DfT incompetence could be about anything

There's an interesting article on the Times website about this. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/politics/article5462099.ece

    Is This Wrong?

I think most kids have an interest in railways at a young age, it's certainly nothing to worry about.

    Railway Enthusiasts

Spot a pattern forming here? We complained about people standing close to the platform edges filming, a paper picked up on it. We compain about people flailing, bellowing and going a bit over the top on railtours and it ends up in papers... again! If the small minority doing this (aka...
