    Station pubs

It's not part of the station, but The Boathouse at Wylam is usually pretty good. A decent selection of beers and a view of the Tyne Valley line.

    Old speed limit signs: colours?

A lot of old railway items can legally be bought as scrap, you'd be lucky enough to get a receipt never mind an itemised list of everything you've bought.

    Speed limit sign question.

The red diamond/circular signs are the normal speed limit in kph. IIRC the blue ones are emergency speed limits. Usually where the blue signs are there is also a blue light on a post nearby. I've never seem them in use, but I guess when the lights are on then the speed limits on the blue...

Crap photos, but this one is 2001ish.

    The Leamside line

Yeah, they tend to run in cycles so they have a few weeks of running then a few weeks break. They often change the day they run between cycles too.

    The Leamside line

The Royal Mail platform is still there, south west of the disused curve. I'm not sure how long it has been lifted, but it's been a while.

    The Leamside line

Yeah, I believe so. If the Leamside was reopened as a secondary route for freight then it might also be worth reopening this curve from the Tyne Valley line round to Tyne Yard. It would allow freight from the Leamside/Sunderland/Jarrow lines to access Tyne Yard without needing to cross the...

    The Leamside line

IIRC weren't Nissan interested in developing this site (or somewhere nearby) to allow cars to be loaded from the factory for transportation?

    Signalbox opening hours

CCTV Not if the box controls the crossing, surely?

    Signalbox opening hours

According to Quail, Bristol controls the line to Avonmouth Dock Crossing (next to the M5). St Andrews Junction controls the line from there to Severn Beach and the first part of the line back to Filton. So St Andrews box would need to be open to allow access into Avonmouth station.

    Leicester station opening times

Newcastle is staffed 24 hours too, but they usually lock up around midnight until the first departure at 0430 (obviously they open up to let people out arriving after midnight ). I'd have a word with the staff when you arrive, they might be ok with you hanging around if they know what...

    Signalling at Mallaig

I suspect it would take a bit longer than 5 minutes to walk from Mallaig to Banavie and back... :p

    Hello and a question

Not fail safe I guess. Both may not be heard and a radio could potentially not work when you need it. Someone with a flag is easily seen by the second lookout and the other workers.

    Closed stations

Take a look at this site for stations http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/ As for closed depots, there's Cambois in Northumberland. Here's a photo I took a couple of years ago. I have a full set of photos that I need to put online sometime.

    1 a week

The current service is a bit pointless as it doesn't really go anywhere useful. Denton station is quite well placed near the M60/M67, so would be ideal for a parkway station with a direct service into Manchester Victoria. I don't know what the area around there is like though, there...

    manchester picc northbound bay platforms?

Certainly looks that way. I've just found the document I was talking about earlier, although it's now 7 years old: http://www.rail-reg.gov.uk/upload/pdf/nms-gmpte.pdf But that would still require trains from the East to cross all the lines at Ardwick, which isn't ideal. Perhaps another...

    manchester picc northbound bay platforms?

Both of those suggestions would require extensive building work and wouldn't really help. Anything terminating would need to cross lines when arriving or departing (depending what side the bays were built on) so would still limit the amount of trains that could run through 13/14. Also the...
