    Manchester Fights To Keep Pacers

More gibberish from know-it-all veg. 155s would require re-training. They may look similar to 153s but electrically they are not. There are significant enough differences, particularly with circuit breakers and under solebar equipment. From a northern driver who signs both.

    Sandy derailment 1998

Don't think it was 91023 that involved in Sandy. However it was definately involved in Hatfield (it didn't tip) and Great Heck (again didn't tip). Incredibly it didn't become too damaged in either incident but when it went in for repairs it was re-numberd 91132 in the 91/1 program.

    Class 185 reliability

You might referring to the engine hunting for fuel. I'm told they are supposed to do this but don't know why.

    shops on voyagers coming out

I believe it's to keep the lettering consistent throughout all of their trains, IIRC 'A' is used for bike/luggage reservations in the power car or TGS of the HSTs. Not sure what letter is used for the DVT space as that's at the opposite end of the train.

    Caledonian and FGW Sleepers

Bus Ferry The ferry is £2.75, the bus shouldn't be much more. So should be less than a tenner each.

    Caledonian and FGW Sleepers

The round trip via Skye is recommended, I did a few years ago. You don't get to see that much of the Skye, but the scenery is still excellent. You also have the advantage of doing two different lines in one trip.

    Northern's 323 replacements

Doubt it. No talk of that from people I know from Northern. Sounds like end of platform veg talk.

    Northern's 323 replacements

As far as I'm aware 333s are staying in the Leeds area. Probably gonna be a desiro replacement in the north west region. They seem like the electric unit of choice just now!

    Favourite Unit

No. I said I would prefer a VEP or whatever (i.e. any of the old mk1 stock) if they were still in regular service rather than on a branch I rarely travel on. Now stop frothing otherwise someone may mistake you for a unit stoat ;)

    Favourite Unit

Out of all the trains currently running on the Southern I find the Desiros the most pleasant to travel on. Having said that the furthest I've done on one is Waterloo - Alton, so I can't comment on long distance journeys. Given the choice I'd probably choose a VEP or whatever, but apart from...

    Class 66. Why so unpopular?

Generally because they're seen to have replace 'better' traction. Personally I don't mind them, they can look decent in a photo and the alternative would probably either be something just as bland or nothing at all.

    Favourite Diesel Loco

    Last time I checked 86, 87, 90 and 92s weren't diesel ;)

    Grand Central HSTs?

Are you going to own up which one was you then? ;) Obviously it was always going to be slightly bias, but I think it gave an interesting insight into the company.

    Grand Central HSTs?

Both approaches to Sunderland have quite slow linespeeds so I guess a bit of power might be needed to get into the station without crawling to a halt.

uh oh! rumours of the return of {gulp}... Class 86s to Anglia!

Actually 91s had the space reserved for tilt equiptment to be fitted as with the mk4s for future improvements. This space was used for reliability improvements during the 91/1 conversion. I believe another Traction Motor cooler was placed in the space where tilt would have been fitted as 91s...

    Grand Central HSTs?

Nexus were promoting the service by scheduling specific gaps in the service for GC to fit in to Sunderland, when things go right....

    Grand Central HSTs?

I've just had a look on their website and apparently Grand Central will be offering free wifi to all passengers. If they do then it'll certainly be a big incentive for me to use them rather than GNER if I'm travelling down to London and am not in a hurry.
