    Skye ferries

You'll need to catch the bus to Armadale then ferry over to Mallaig. I don't think the Kyleakin ferry runs now that the bridge is open. I posted the details on another thread: http://www.railforums.co.uk/showpost.php?p=257594&postcount=20

3 questions about Tyne and Wear Metro

I used to commute between Gateshead and St Peters/University just after the Sunderland extension opened for three years and the Metros were always well loaded throughout the day. However the loadings beyond University were always poor so I guess it makes sense to curtail most trains at Park...

3 questions about Tyne and Wear Metro

Yeah, they've sent test trains down there on a few occasions. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- http://mark20109.fotopic.net/p53316002.html

3 questions about Tyne and Wear Metro

There's a bit of info here, but the Indusi link doesn't work.

3 questions about Tyne and Wear Metro

Apart from the Sunderland line I think the metro mostly uses 2 aspect signals. Either red/green or red/yellow home signals (signals that control access into the next section) or green/yellow repeaters (signals to show the driver if the next home signals is clear or not). I'm not sure of the...

Bridge next to Ilford Road Metro Station

I'm not familiar with the lights, but I'd guess they warning lights. There's a siding between Ilford Road and South Gosforth and presumably drivers have to walk down the track. The light would come on to show that there's no trains coming and it's safe to pass under the bridge.

    Metro ban on mobility scooters

The Metro doors are powered from the top, the bottom just slides along and lock into place when closed. When passing other trains the door flap with the air turbulence, similar to those on a pacer.

    Metrolink Derailment

I though someone else would have posted this by now. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/7480690.stm

Tyen & Wear Metro develops a hole.

I heard about this, but it's interesting to see a photo of it. It's a good job it didn't take too long to fix, last time I had a look at the Jesmond - Manors spur the OHLE had been taken down (in connection with the building work at Northumbria Uni I believe). So unless it's recently been...

Vandals close part of the Newcastle Metro

Pelaw is usually fine, Meadow Well on the other hand...

    Any more of you

Living up North and having grandparents that used to live near Blackpool, I've had plenty of rides on the trams at Beamish and Blackpool. I've yet to visit Critch though, is it worth going? I'm also a bit of a fan of funicular railways too, such as the one at Saltburn.

Vandals close part of the Newcastle Metro

It's generally ok, but it can sometimes be a bit dubious on an evening though.

    Favourite Tram System? [UK]

AFAIK Sunderland - South Hylton is owned by Network Rail, track gauge trains have run down there a few times. Pelaw - Sunderland is fitted with TPWS for mainline trains and Indusi train stops for the Metros. The signals also have much longer overlap sections.

    Speed Cameras

That's open to debate, I didn't find them funny.

    Tyne and Wear Metro

I think you mean a Day Saver? It's on the Metro tickets page. All of the bins on the platforms had/have a sign saying something along the lines of "Please retain tickets for inspection".

    Trams Connected with NR

Although it's not a tram, the Tyne and Wear Metro is connected to NR at Pelaw. Metros run on NR track between Pelaw and South Hylton. There are also plans to replace the current two single tracks (one NR, one Metro) between Pelaw and Jarrow with double track although it's not clear who would...

    Tyne and Wear Metro

It was ok before Sunderland Direct opened. They didn't get any new stock for the extra services, so had to stretch what they had. Hopefully the timetable change will improve things. But I doubt it will be as good as they were until they acquire some new stock. Incidentally there was a...

    Tyne and Wear Metro

Anyone here travelled on the Tyne and Wear Metro? I used to be a regular commuter on it when I was at uni. These days I only really use it for getting to and from Newcastle.
