Heritage/preserved railways you intend to visit...

Ah excellent, their diesel events are usually pretty good. Sounds like a visit to Wales is in order sometime then...

What do you think is the most important aspect of a heritage railway?

A few pandrols wouldn't go amiss too  Can't argue with this. You could have a line with great scenery and rolling stock, but if it also had miserable staff it would ruin the visit a bit.

Heritage/preserved railways you intend to visit...

There seems to be quite a bit of interest in the ELR, perhaps someone should organise a forum meet for one of the diesel events? It's one of my favourite lines as it has a nice BR diesel feel to it rather than focussing on steam all the time. I could do with visiting the Weardale Railway...

    Weardale, USA

I've just found a more up to date photo showing the Weardale line a bit more overgrown.

    Just out of interest...

The Wensleydale Railway is closer to me than the NYMR, but I've only travelled on it once so I can't really give it a fair comparison to others. Hopefully I'll get down there for their diesel gala in September. I also need to pay a visit to the Weardale railway sometime too... (141 thrash...

    Just out of interest...

Either the NYMR or ELR for me. I think I'll go with the NYMR as it's closed to me and the scenery is a bit nice IMO. I've heard good things about the Llangollen. I've not got around to visiting yet though.

Bowes Railway victim of arson attack

It's a shame but hardly surprising, the village is ok but the nearby estate is a bit of a dump...

ELR Summer Diesel Gala 4th - 8th July

Is there any point to having 5 20s on a train? IIRC they ran 3 on a beerex at one event I was at last year, the driver had the power on for about 10 seconds before we were at line speed...

    NYMR:Your thoughts.

I used to volunteer there too (sadly I don't have the time for it these days). The line does have quite a steam bias but I think it suits the line, rather than a line like the ELR which IMO suits diesel. It would be nice to see a few more diesel events though.

    Anyone for 141 bashing?

There was a slight bit of sarcasm (surprisingly for me ;)) when I said I'd be having a hellfire bash followed by an overnighter... I'll probably be going down one weekend as I work during the week and I can't really justify taking a day off to see a 141.

    Anyone for 141 bashing?

Yeah, I might have trip down before the 37s start operating services. I'll post some photos if I do.

    Anyone for 141 bashing?

The Weardale railway start operating tomorrow, initially using their 141 until their 37s and stock are ready. http://www.weardale-railway.org.uk/ I'll be having a hellfire bash on Thursday followed by a rather dreadful all nighter at Stanhope.

No, a delete a moderator button would be much better.

Surely that's a reason to not go? ;)

    NYMR - Brilliant line!

I did that for a while. Don't have the time for it now though.

    Lineside Photographic Permits

I doubt you'll be able to get a lineside permit if you are under the age of 16. I would have thought the age limit was 18 due to H&S, but obviously the Bluebell railway appear to have got around that somehow.
