    Virgin Pendolino, Coach E

Not completely true as I've been on 9 car pendolinos with reservations in Coach E. Presumably these services would normally be planned for 11 car ones but a 9 car has run on it instead.

FGW coffee service takes a downward lurch

I remember when EMT used to do free drinks on their trains and that was always a 'make your own' cup of water and a sachet/tea bag so fGW are not the first to use this approach.

    Virgin First Class meals

The way I read it was that it is cold light bites before Preston and warm light bites (hot) after. The 16:30 to 18:30 departures from Euston all specifically state Evening Meal (hot) before Preston.

London Midland Service shown as a Sleeper

I remember checking LM WCML services in the past on Real Train Times and seeing one was booked to be a Class 506 EMU :o

London Midland 110mph running from Monday 10th December

Watford may not lose a service but does lose a route as it no longer has the direct LM one serving the Trent Valley line.

London Midland 110mph running from Monday 10th December

Since Rugby is served by Birmingham trains then I hope they keep those services especially as it is cheaper and quicker to travel by VT from RUG to BHM than it is on LM!

How To Work out train Headcodes

You can normally see headcodes on pendolino door panels when they are stopped at stations. Other than that don't think there are many trains that have headcodes shown on them these days.

How To Work out train Headcodes

On TOPS lists the train reporting code is actually 10 digits long. I know that digits 3,4,5,6 are the headcodes we usually see. I believe the last 2 are used to identify the day the train originally started in service as lists I have seen today have most of these ending in 05.

    Virgin diversions 6th May

The 4 ATW 57s were still leased & used by Virgin and were only on a sub lease to Arriva. Not sure of the details but VT liveried 57s did very occasionally turn up on the ATW service as well.

    11 car Pendolino today

Is 157 definitely in service? Not seen any reports (except the one in this thread) of 157 having run anywhere. Not even sure it has been out on a test run yet since it was delivered. Also, I believe 131 is still in the test running phase. I saw it today running Edge Hill - Euston and return.

BITE Card. Swap it or lose it.

So when do the old cards supposedly finish? Also, why if I need to register for a new card have I not had an email telling me about this and the first I know about it is from a railway forum? I've had offers by email before so they've got my address. I also used a Pumpkin on Saturday and...

Another good innovative idea by FGW

I read on wnxx that the 2 power cars were on a Laira to Old Oak move anyway so probably helped make the decision to continue the service easier.

6Y53 Northampton - Crewe. What was it?

IIRC 6Y53 is the headcode normally used for the electrification train. This was parked at Northampton opposite Kings Heath depot on Saturday when I was passing through.

    Train cancelled due to overloading!

I remember a Bank Holiday a fair few years ago being on a pair of 142s at Preston which was due to go to Blackpool North. The train was wedged throughout with more people left on the platform! An announcement was made that the train would not be departing until some passengers got us as it...

    Strangest Diversion

We literally crossed straight over to the line that goes through P13 and reversed there. It was near the loop where the Holyhead - Piccadilly ATW units park waiting to return to Wales!).

    Strangest Diversion

Maybe not strange but definitely obscure for me was the following one: Manchester Piccadilly to Crewe via Warrington Bank Quay after departing P3 at Piccadilly, all due to an incident in the Wilmslow area! It was an ATW service which reversed to go through P13 at Piccadilly, P1 at Oxford...

National Rail now reporting that normal service expected at 1230.

    Virgin - Coach L....

When 390054 was running round in 11 car formation the standard coaches are lettered A-G. The 1st class had no letters presumably because they knew it was to be reduced to 9 car and would then get lettered G-K (excluding I) with the F&G standard coaches removed!

That is one way to stop people complaining

    ECML Disruption

Reports on wnxx that it was 43290 that was the leading power car on 1E13 today.
