Have fares for ALRs , other Rover tickets ,etc gone up today 2/1/2019 ?

There should be relaxations on routes with sparse timetables, especially if travelling against the main traffic flow.

    Best place to buy tickets?

I don't care about Nectar points or other similar schemes. I used to collect Red Spotted Hanky points but they weren't of any great value to me. I now just look for train company sites where there's no fee for postal delivery, I buy at the ticket office, or I collect the tickets from the TVM...

Season ticket renewal plus free days causes issues

When I used the old APTIS machines, I don't think it was possible to issue a season for a duration longer than 12 months. I wish I could remember what we used to do when there were void days on an annual season. I think we used to deduct the daily rate in addition to any 5% or 10% discount...

    Should Railcard T&Cs be harmonised?

I can just remember railcards coming in. The intention was to offer cheaper fares at off peak times to help fill the trains and bring in additional revenue for the cash strapped BR which had to have a lot of rolling stock to handle the peak flows. I know that times have changed, but I don't...

Red Spotted Hanky dicontinuing Tesco Vouchers & loyalty points

I stopped using RSH a while back. The ability to redeem Clubcard points didn't really interest me, since we don't go to Tesco much. I can see why people would have been keener to use them than me, but I can't see any point to it now.

RailSail - Penzance to Belfast Port

I don't doubt that the market for SailRail tickets is a very small one. In the case of Cronwall to Belfast viua Cairnryan it must be miniscule, and largely confined to those very few people who do it for the journey itself, rather than taking a flight. There is a market, though, however tiny...

PlusBus tickets and the lack of bus driver knowledge

I haven't had any issues with PlusBus either. I've used it regularly in Swansea without a problem, and several other towns and cities as well. Have I just been lucky?

    Sailrail with onward connection

Indigo2 is right. I had to get separate onward tickets a few years ago. I think from memory that the cessation of through tickets beyond Rosslare might have happened at about the same time as th Rosslare to Waterford line closed.

    Taunton to Cardiff

This is true, but I always prefer to go via Weston if it means I can avoid the Voyagers. Even a 150 is better than those things, lol!

Northern finally paid my Delay Repay from March 13

My ATW claim was paid in April, also for a delay in November last year. They gave me an extra £10 in the form of a rail voucher for not replying earlier.

CrossCountry Web Support / £10 Admin Fee

From what I hear from people inside the company, things aren't getting better, if anything they're getting worse!

    Cardiff to Gloucester and Bristol

I'm pleased you didn't have any difficulties in the end.

    Heathrow T123 Ticket Office location?

As far as I know, they only sell their own tickets.

    Cardiff to Gloucester and Bristol

I would expect that break of journey to be totally valid. You may come across someone whose lack of knowledge makes them query the validity, but that can happen anywhere and at any time.

    Yeah, someone called ramblin on!

Do I need a reason to turn in my season ticket?

You should definitely bring this tot he attention of the TOC. Otherwise, how will anything ever improve (I'm disappointed enough that GWR hasn't appeared to have got any better since I worked for them). It's certainly correct that no reason is required for a season ticket refund. Whether the...

Help - why shouldn't you use the Gatwick Express?

I agree as well. There's no point in overloading and confusing an audience if you have a message to get across. The Gatwiok Express can be useful for people like myself who can sometimes find it's both cheaper and a little bit quicker to get to Gatwick via London instead of changing at...

    Ryde Esplanade Station & Wightlink

I didn't have a railcard, which is why I was so surprised!

    Ryde Esplanade Station & Wightlink

The rail and feryr ticket is cheaper, though there's not much in it. So there's no need for a walk along the pier! I remember visiting Southampton once, and finding that a rail plus ferry ticket from Millbrook to Cowes West was cheaper than just buying a ferry ticket.

GTR Gatwick Express On Board Supervisors only accept cards (they do not accept cash).

Cash use is declining, but I don't think it will ever go away completely.
