    MG11 issued, please help

It's not against the law to go to London with only £20 in your pocket and no other means of payment. I'm sure people do it all the time. The point is, though, that such a scenario could possibly lead to problems should things go wrong with your day, as you have no unfortunately discovered...

    TFW Prosecution- Second letter

I agree with what Fawkes Cat said about the consequences of a successful prosecution. I used to work in (non railway) recruitment and it was always a managerial decision when it came to anything revealed on a DBS check. Most are very happy if an applicant has been honest on their application...

Northern TVMs not set up to issue 'Promise to Pay'?

I have never heard of P2P before, and I have to say that everything I've read make sit all sound pretty dubious to me. I can't see how anything to do with this scheme would be enforceable in a court of law myself, but it would be very interesting to see a test case brought (as long as I'm not...

    Travelling without a ticket

It's likely to be impossible to predict what's going to happen in regards to court action. It will depend on what happened, and how TIL view your response to their letter - and your offer of financial restitution.

    TFW - Short fare - Cardiff Station - 3/11/18

I imagine that the reasons behind short faring are quite complex, and I think there might well be an element of 'the service is rubbish' in there somewhere, even if it's a very small factor. The majority of people just do it because they think they can get away with it. They then get very upset...

TPE and ATW acting incorrectly: incompetence or are they lying?

I don't think that TOC's explicitly instruct their staff to reject complaints. That would invite secret investigations, whistleblowing and all that kind of stuff which is so beloved by the likes of Panorama and Dispatches. Since the railways are always a good target for the media, I think that...

    Train fine panicking South Wales

At this point I wouldn't even like to guess at what's going to happen, what with ATW having come to an end and been replaced now.

Raileasy denying they were the retailer

It looks as if someone in the contact centre needs a bit of retraining!

    XC threatening prosecution

I sense that the OP had originally intended to travel from Macclesfield, but due to circumstances changed their mind and got on at Stockport instead. That's fair enough in my book, but it's essential to have a ticket to cover the entire journey being made before boarding the train. I don't see...

ticketing mistakes made by railway staff

I have removed information that identifies the location and the time of the incident. I agree that it's human error. If you had checked what you were given at the point of purchase then I'm sure the mistake would have been put right, quickly and without fuss.

Plymouth pensioner fined by train company over mix up

I have a little bit of sympathy because the railcard was produced at the point of purchase and it's reasonable to believe that an out opf date railcard would be noticed at that point. I would suspect that GWR agrees, as they have offered the traveller the option of renewing the railcard or...

    Said wrong station by accident

I'd say that the majority that use Llanelli and buy on board have just got into the habit of doing so. They don't like TVM's, they only arrive in the nick of time, the booking office is shut or busy, or all of those things. It's going to be difficult for ATW to change the habit, and I reckon...

    Said wrong station by accident

It's endemic in South Wales just to ignore ticket facilities and hop on that something needs to be done. Here, though, and like the other incident you refer to Gareth, things have been made much more serious by the OP lying about the origin station. I hope that they would see a settlement of...

    Said wrong station by accident

Llanelli is not a village, though that's not relevant to the issue at hand. The hours of the ticket office are as Collins stated. After that, it's common practice to buy on board. I'm sure form my own observations during the last decade that more people do this than use the TVM. Consequently...

EMT: "Your responsibility to approach the TM or Senior Conductor"

If it was a requirement under the NCoT, then that is what everyone would have to do. As it isn't, no matter what EMT says, no one has to do it. That's the real problem.

Cardiff Queen Street - long queues

I'm sure no one wants to see you get into trouble through being frustrated with the queues and jumping on a train after being explicitly told not to. Whether we like it or not, that is a criminal offence and ther eis always going to be a possibility that ATW will cause you a great deal of...

Trainline- journey to printer paid for but required to buy a separate ticket

I really don't think that it's worth pursuing the line of defence that it's all too confusing and there was a failur eof process, sbros. It's your right to do so if you want to, but I reckon it's a high risk strategy that could cost you a lot more money than just paying what they've asked for.

Trainline- journey to printer paid for but required to buy a separate ticket

The question has been answered and the OP has not returned for a while. I;m therefore closing this thread. Please feel free to start a new thread if you want to discuss the side issues to this incident.

    Transpennine Express Fare Evasion

This thread is a good example of how a discussion can end up looking as if it's trying to find justifications for getting someone off on some kind of technicality. I don't think that a discussion of whether the railway rules are complex or not is going to add anything useful to the OP's...

Cardiff Queen Street - long queues

It's also a tactic that we used in Reading to good effect, but to be honest I can't see how it will be that effective in a station like Cardiff Queen St if there's only one window open and trains every couple of minutes. There were load sof trains in Reading, but we used to have a minimum of...
