    Connections at Blaenau Ffestiniog

Just because a ticket is available doesn't mean that there are significant numbers buying it. My point, though, is mainly that there will be fewer people travellign anyway in OCtober, hence the reduced services on bith the FR and the WHR. Add that to the infrequent service on the Conwy Valley...

Can anyone recommend a good Welsh Little Train railway

I had no idea about the Hague home, but there was certainly plenty of wildlife to be seen when we travelled. We had to stop for a few minutes while the driver and fireman helped to round up some stray sheep who had escaped form their field!

    Connections at Blaenau Ffestiniog

I'd just be glad that you can do the circle at all. The WHR has a very limited timetable. Even in peak season I believe there ar eonly 3 trains per day, and only two of those allow for a return trip. In October there are only 2 WHR trains, so it must be difficult to link together conenction...

Can anyone recommend a good Welsh Little Train railway

I agree with what ChiefPlanner says. to be honest, I found the section beyond Rhy Ddu uninspiring. Where the WHR (C) runs along the trackbed of the old standard gauge line from Afon Wen into Caernarfon, I found it downright tedious! I enjoyed the Welshpool and Llanfair a couple of years back...

Can anyone recommend a good Welsh Little Train railway

I enjoy the Talyllyn Railway. You can reach by rail at Tywyn. A little further north and also with a nearby station is the Fairbourne Railway. If they don't suit, then I'd suggest a rid eon the Festiniog between Porthmadog and Tan y Bwlch.

VTWC 70 minute min journey for 1st Class refreshments?

I think you have a very good chance of getting something. If you don't because the staff decide to enforce the 70 minute rule, then that's a shame, but you can't really complain about it.

    Island Hopping in Scotland

I've enjoyed reading this despite there being less trains than is normally the case. I find boats and ferries almost as interesting, though, so this has been a nice change. It sure does look like a great trip in a lovely part of the world.

    Full English near Marylebone

I like the look of that Italian place though I've never been in there. I like the smells coming out of there too! It would be a shame if it's not open for you to try, as I've had a few great brekkies in independent Italian cafes in London, but Wetherspoons have a perfectly acceptable breakfast...

    Southampton Town Quay

I'v been to Southampton quite a few times and I don't recall seeing any signs. That doesn't mean there aren't any because I'm not very good at noticing things! The route given by swt_passenger seems a very sensible one to me.

    Caledonian sleeper questions

Relax, on my sleeper trips to or from Inverness and Fort William, I've never heard any boisterous passengers at all. I haven't always had a good sleep but it's never been because of my fellow travelelrs. I doubt I'd sleep at 2030 because I'm just not used to it. Even when I worked shifts I...

    Talyllyn Railway

I've never rally found the Vale of Rheidol as enjoyable as either the Talyllyn or the Ffestiniog. That's not to say it's no good. The view down into the valley is very nice. The falls at Devil's Bridge are worth a look. Perhaps it's just that I don't like Aberystwyth much! No offence intended :)

    Talyllyn Railway

They are all enjoyable and well worth a visit. You should definitely do the Ffestiniog, and, who knows, you might prefer it to the Talyllyn!

    Talyllyn Railway

The Talyllyn is a lovely little railway. I prefer it to the Ffestiniog.

    12 Welsh railways

I prefer the uphill run myself, but maybe the times don't stack up for you, TukayAway? Also is there any way you can get to Pwllheli? Just for completeness, so you can say you've done all the Cambrian Coast? I made a special trip in 1995, having only made it as far as Porthmadog prior to that...

2017 - time to get out!

I admire your desire to get out more, crispy, and after so much hospital treatment, appointments, etc, I reckon you don't mind paying a bit more for a good pub or cafe experience as long as it's convenient. If I were you, and I've had a few medical issues myself, I'd be looking into doing a...

Spa Valley Railway and Uckfield line.

The Spa Valley Railways had done a great job. It's a nice little line, nothing really spectacular but I enjoyed Groombridge and Eridge stations. I reckon they've done the best they can at Tunbridge Wells West, too. The Bluebell Line is excellent as well.

    Interrail Passes

I've done Interrail trips in Switzerland, Benelux and a European trip, though that was way back in the dim and distant past! They were all very enjoyable, These days I reckon the key to it is going to countries where they don;t have a load of compulsory reservation fees or supplements, and a...

    Christmas Eve travel to Oxted

I am doubtful that a service will leave Victoria for Oxted as late as 2353 on Christmas Eve. I think that a last train at 2053 is far more likely, too.

That's not a bad idea if you're happy with a longer journey.

3 in 7 Day Rover Tickets

I fear there's more chance of the ALR being abolished than a flexi version coming in.
