    Newcastle station portico works

I'm not opposed to the proposal. I can't see it doing any harm. It's not as if there aren't bars in the immediate area anyway.

Breich - Public Consultation on Station Closure

If a station no longer serves any useful purpose, then there's no point in retaining it. This seems to be one of those instances where the original function fo the station seems to have been lost. I gather that it was once an are that had some industry, which has all now disappeared.

Balloch Pier, any future for the station?

As is the case with other reopening proposals. Times have changed, and what looked to be a basket case in the 1960's o 1980's period might not be considered quite so hopeless now.

Balloch Pier, any future for the station?

There's no chance of the track being reinstated. What exactly would be the point? A minature, tourist railway might have more chance, but I wouldn't put money up in the hope of making a decent return!

Swansea District Line for faster Cardiff-West Wales (and How) service

Gorseinon has excellent bus links to Swansea, which serve areas that are of more interest to commuters than High St in Swansea. These include the retail park at Fforestfach, and of course the main bus station. The bus stops are more convenient for many residents than the railway station would...

Swansea District Line for faster Cardiff-West Wales (and How) service

There's no doubt that there ar emore commuters now than there were back in the 1950's and early 1960's. way back then there was far less ned to travel far. Most communities will have had good facilities for things like banks, post offices and local shops as well as the work they needed. I still...

Swansea District Line for faster Cardiff-West Wales (and How) service

I've seen some old timetables for the southern section of the line. The local services to Pontardulais weren't regular or particularly frequent, and I think the Brynamman trains were fewer again. It didn't surprise me that these services were axed, as they didn't seem to be much use to many...

Swansea District Line for faster Cardiff-West Wales (and How) service

Reopening of Carmarthen to Aberystwyth is more likely than reinstatement of the old line through Gorseinon. As usual, the railway layout in this area is a legacy of the reasons why the lines were constructed in the first place. They were built to take minerals to the sea. I'd much rather the...

Swansea District Line for faster Cardiff-West Wales (and How) service

Evrything seems to be planned for the short term as well. Ther eis veyr little in the way of long term or strategic thinking.

Yes I am. I'm saying what I think should happen, not what will happen. I should have made that clearer!

Swansea District Line for faster Cardiff-West Wales (and How) service

I think that extra short workings at the southern and northenr ends would be far more beneficial than additional through services. I wouldn't close the door completely on adding one or two mor eend to end services, but the priority has to be Llandeilo to Swansea and Knighton to Shrewsbury...

Swansea District Line for faster Cardiff-West Wales (and How) service

I can't argue too much with that view. There ar epockets of industry remaining around Llanelli, but the town has become moribund because so many jobs have gone, and no a lot of residents are forced into commuting to Swansea and beyond. I suspect that the same is true of places like Clydach...

Swansea District Line for faster Cardiff-West Wales (and How) service

I agree that more services are needed on the southern section. I would prefer an hourly service to Llandeilo, which has become a bit of destination in itself for visitors these days, and a two hourly service to Llandovery. You're not wrong, Gareth. There are a few people who commute to...

Swansea District Line for faster Cardiff-West Wales (and How) service

The beneift of fast services along the SLD, along with line speed improvements and one or two strategically sited stations, is that connectivity between Cardiff and the lowe Swansea Valley would be much improved. As ChifPlanner rightly said, there are not many jobs in the area now, but there is...

Swansea District Line for faster Cardiff-West Wales (and How) service

As with many smalelr stations, the real benefit of the stations at Bynea and Llangennech is to allow local residents the chance to travel further afield. You are right that the locals will likely use a bus to get into Llanelli, but the prospect of taking a bus with luggage in order to change to...

Twelve potential new railway stations in Wales

I think i's very unlikely that all of these will come to pass, but perhaps mor elikely than the Carmarthen to Aberystwyth reopening :D

Twelve potential new railway stations in Wales

I would like to see all of these new stations built, but I'll believe it when I see it. In Swansea, I'd imagine that a new Cockett station would be served primarily by he Pembroke Dock trains, perhaps with a few extras in the peaks. Landore deserves more trains due to the retail park and...

    Liverpool "Sergeant Pepper" line proposal
