Northern: North West Sunday Crew Shortages

I agree with you there, scrapy. There are other practical considerations involved with Sunday rostering. Bringing Sundays inside the working week is not a magical cure for all the problems that exist at the moment. I reckon it will help, though. As I see things from my chair in my house, Arriva...

ATW change of Destination en route.

It isn't just ATW, as it's happened to me on GWR as well. And on one of those GWR occasions, at Bristol Temple Meads, I didn't hear the announcement at all, and ended up going to Bath Spa rather than Taunton...

    Cambrian Coast Sunday service

I can't answer that, but it's a reasonable enough question. As I was living on the coast at the time, all I can say is that the later service allowed me to go off and visit friends and family for a couple of days. Without that train, I'd have been very isolated.

    Cambrian Coast Sunday service

I used to catch the late Sunday train from Machynlleth regularly on a Sunday night. Believe me, it was far from empty!

Extra services for Cornish branch lines.

I travelled on a through Paddington to Newquay train last summer, and it was extremely busy. To me, the ral function of the line is to feed in and out of the network, not to serve the local communities, which ar epretty small and the hinterland has a fairly sparse population. Most local...

Swindon - London journey times - What's Going Wrong?

I hope we can get back to the sort of times we had in the late 1990's. From what I cna remember, HST's were scheduled to depart Reading 25 minutes after leaving Paddington.

    May 17 timetable changes

I would have liked that back in the days when I used to regularly go for a drink in Swansea and catch the the 2345 back to Llanelli :D

    May 17 timetable changes

That's a very sensible move by ATW. It's a change that leapt out at me when I first saw the new timetable.

Swindon - London journey times - What's Going Wrong?

Station dwell times at Reading seem to have increased since I worked there. I suppose that's the result of ever increasing usage. The journey times between Reading and Paddington also seem to have been extended by a few minutes across the board.

An example of a train leaving at 0005.

    I think there's a departure from Swansea at 0005.

Timetable complaint - to Network Rail?

Tizzy, if you don't like the change at Crewe, then change somewhere else. I happen to prefer that way of getting to Scotland, though I have sometimes deliberately taken the route via the East Coast for a change, or I've gone via London when I'v ehad the time. I've never tried Cardiff to...

Heart of Wales line future services

I bet the smokers will be happy that they can nip off for a quick puff! Seriously, while it doesn't look good, I don't think it's quite as bad as it seems for most passengers. After all, not many will be using the trains for end to end journeys, and I cna remember having some waits at...

Heart of Wales line future services

Interesting suggestions, and I think very worthy of consideration. Maybe the extra train from Llandovery should run to Cardiff and not Swansea as a trial?

Heart of Wales line future services

You have made some good points. The deficiencies of the afternoon services ar eone of the things that I feel need addressing. However, given the stock situation with ATW, I;m not sure anything can be realisticalyl done at this moment in time.

Heart of Wales line future services

    I think that's a fair assessment.

Heart of Wales line future services

The train that used to ge tinto Swansea just after 0900 was pretty well loaded by the time it got to Llanelli. I caught it a few times myself, because the preceding service was late or too crowded, and I was always pleasantly surprised by the numbers on board. I hink the current service from...

Reading commuters filling long distance GWR services

I often chose to avoid the HST's to and from Reading when I lived there. It's not a new problem, but I can believe it's got worse, despite the additional trains running to Cardiff and Bristol. I don't have any answers, but I'd love to see the Heathrow Express got rid of!

    Improved Swanline Timetable

I'm not opposed to running services form Swansea down the Vale. I think direct trains form the west would help Cardiff Airport, and provide direct journeys to Barry, as well as give passengers more choice.

    Improved Swanline Timetable

There are paths for an hourly service, but no stock as far as I can tell. Rejigging the timetables or routeing services via The Vale would require paths to be available. Like I say,. it's difficult and a solution escapes me.
